What was it that made you hate uni?
Exeter was full of really posh people. The sort of people who judge you for looking slightly scruffy. Everyone grouped up on the basis of which boarding school they went to, and if you went to a state school you were victimised. I kid you not.

I'm starting my A-levels this September.
    I've picked to do:
    English Literature,
    Law,
    German
and a BTEC course of journalism in creative media production.
I'm pretty sure I want to be a journalist realistically, but my dream is to work in TV or games design. As this is the case, does anyone think I should take Media A level, even though I have not taken it as a GCSE. Im really struggling and need an opinion or two! I really want to progress to university and will these be accepted? Are these chosen subjects correct for Journalism, tv work i.e presenting and screenwriting AND games design? Many thanks!
Games design? That's programming. Your A level choices don't seem to indicate that career direction.

Are you talking about AS or A2? I plan on doing the AS from scratch next year! was it the LRW paper or oral exam that you struggled with?
Good luck with starting from scratch, that's dedication! So you didn't do a GCSE in a language?

I just finished AS, the A2 course looks more appealing to be honest I struggled with both but found the LRW a lot harder because it's all in the same exam. For the oral I found improvising makes it a little easier. How come you want to do German?

Hahahah I speak fluent Dutch though because I lived in Holland for a while! I just sat AS + A2 Dutch I just want to carry on with language learning appealing? I heard that A2 requires some literature study.. What exam board are you on? Ahh so you found the AS a big step up from GCSE? What grade did you get at GCSE ?

If you are thinking of game design as in computer games actually making them, take maths, if not that computing at least, but they prefer maths. If you're not thinking that then my post is rendered useless :P

Can I ask what the Media A Level would entail? I done a similar sounding course in Scotland to try and get some further study into the media but it actually turned out to be a lot like English. I had to write essays about TV episodes, it wasn't what I imagined at all.

It seems you have a nice mixture there but I don't really know what your other choices would've been or where they would lead you. I think as long as you get the grades you should be on the right road.

Nice! How did you find your AS + A2 Dutch exams? Fair enough, sounds appealing enough I heard that too! But I'm not really sure (My teachers aren't the best..)

Our exam board is AQA and I know we study environment, the multicultural society, contemporary social issues and cultural topics Which exam board will you be with? I achieved a B overall, but I'm retaking as I was 1 off an A! And yep, I really wasn't expecting there to be such a big step-up as for A Level (as you might know) there's a lot of focus on grammar, and German grammar is horrible! But you sound good at languages so you will probably do really well

Well the AS paper was rather easy, so the A2 paper had to make up for that I guess  Now that's exactly why the idea of self studying appeals to me.. Ha those are the exact topics i had to cover for Dutch!(well that and technological advances & the like) I heard Edexcel is pretty straight foward but hmmm I'm not sure yet, ahh 1 mark! that sucks! but surely the GCSE will be overlooked once you have the A-level though omg everyone says that about the grammar! I think it's the whole 4 cases thing, no? Danke Schoen und ich wuensch sie sehr viel glueck! xd

It depends what you mean by "games design". A lot of people don't realise what that entails.

For what I consider games design, you'll need maths, physics and/or computing.

Also depends on Uni - some aren't acrredited courses and you'll end up doing web design instead.

Media Studies isn't really considered a "good" A-Level by prestigious Unis.
English Lit. sounds right for you want to do, not really sure where the Law and German parts relate to what you want to do though.

That's good! Good luck Haha nice, how did you find the topics? I did technological advances for AS. So you're with Edexcel? I know But it's good as a back-up just in case I guess haha, YES! The 4 cases drive me crazy, I see the relevance but they're annoyingly hard

Danke! Ihre Deutsch ist sehr gut Ich wünsche Ihnen alles gute für Ihre Deutschkurs nächstes Jahr!
