How can I back out of a job I agreed to in the summer?
I'm really bad at backing out of things! I never know what to say.
Basically I've agreed to a job for the summer, due to certain reasons (rather not go into that), I no longer want to do it.
What can I say when I ring up the manager? Something that isn't as blunt as 'sorry I'm not doing it anymore'. -
Re: How can I back out of a job I agreed to in the summer? No contract, and I don't think there would be, it is more casual yeah. Only so far agreed over the phone and my name has been put down.(Original post by charminggirl)
Have you signed a contract or is it more of a casual job? -
Re: How can I back out of a job I agreed to in the summer?Sounds a bit bad doesn't it? I'd actually rather lie and give a good sounding excuse.(Original post by ROYP)
What's wrong with sorry I'm not doing it anymore? -

In that case I would probably just phone the manager or go in and see them and apologise for not being able to do it. If it makes you feel better just make up an excuse and say you're travelling a bit over summer, your plans have changed etc. Good luck! I can get a bit nervous about things like this too, but just be nice, keep it simple and apologise.

Just be honest. Say you have certain reasons you'd rather not go into and you cannot take up the job as much as you would have liked to. They can't hold it against you and they'll probably find someone to replace you so it's not much grief on their part. Besides, I think not being able to do it for unspecified personal reasons is good enough. They'll probably assume it's bad, and be understanding and sympathetic.

Re: How can I back out of a job I agreed to in the summer? If it's just casual I doubt the employer's going to lose any sleep over it. Whatever you say is going to sound like an excuse so may as well just be straight to the point(Original post by Airfairy)
