According to the article he's asexual/transexual who underwent elective gender reassignment surgery and opted to keep the souvenirs, he didn't just go at himself with a meat cleaver in the kitchen.

I think this guy's made a massive mistake, he's only 22 for crying out loud. He says he's asexual now but who knows what the future holds? It's not like he had a sex change, he's removed his genitals completely which I assume is irreversible. What if he turns 25 and WHAM! he develops a sexual preference and BHAM! in comes the libido but oh yeah, HE HAS NO PENIS!!!? What if he gets to 30 and starts getting all male-broody?

Was the money really that important?

Testosterone is also produced by the Adrenal glands above the kidneys (although at a lesser rate) and I assume he would have to take some sort of hormone from now on to avoid physiological health problems. Plus there is still a chance he could want kids when he's older. Either way to me it was still a rather rash decision to make.

Yeah, but in men it's mostly from the testes. He'll probably need HRT.

Judging from Japans birthrate he probably won't, haha. But seriously, no-one wakes up one morning and decides they want their genitals cut off; he has probably given it a lot of thought.
