Re: Which is the most reserved and unfriendly nation?
F*ck me I'm french and I feel offended.
We may be unfriendly but we're definitely not reserved.
China is probably the most reserved nation in the world (check out chinese students at uni and you have your answer).
Trust me when I say that we, as french, are having a great laugh when we think about you brits and queuing.(Original post by Tahooper)
From personal experience the French are the most unfriendly.
They don't know the meaning of queuing
When I first came into London, I was like : "What is this? Why the queuing?" Couldn't quite believe you were happy to queue for hours. You brits definitely have a reputation for queuing in France.Last edited by Felchingman; 03-08-2012 at 13:11. -
Re: Which is the most reserved and unfriendly nation?
Lots of people saying the UK?
After the holiday I have been on, I COMPLETELY disagree.
I visited Turkey, and at our resort there was so many Russians.
I have NEVER met a race of people so rude and ignorant. I don't like to generalise, but seriously I met about 3 nice Russians out of about 1000. They skipped queues, looked at you like you were a piece of dirt if you said thank you to them, never thanked anyone, walked out right in front of you, refused to speak english to us even if they spoke it perfectly well to barmen, and they would randomly scowl and stare at us for no reason.
I mean Britain has it's share of rude idiots but most of the time we can form an orderly line, say thanks and smile at people if they do something nice.
I heard a lot of people saying French people were rude. However I don't think thats the case o.o I met a lot of nice French people. One thing is though, in the parts I visited they hardly spoke any english. I was surprised at that because throughout learning French at school, my teacher lead me to believe they could all speak english really well XD I didn't mind though, I managed to get by and most were nice about my bad French XD
People in the Netherlands, Belgium and Scandinavia are quite nice from what I have seen, although Swiss people can be quite rude aswell
I would say though, most of my Dutch and Belgian friends are very... direct. And can be quite brutally honest. Like if they have something on their minds they won't exactly hold back XD
Although, every country has it's nice people and nasty people.Last edited by Ambry; 03-08-2012 at 13:16. -
Re: Which is the most reserved and unfriendly nation?
I'm surprised the Chinese got a high vote. The Chinese people i have met have been great, really polite and friendly. Looking at the nation, yes they are expanding and things could change, but that's the same with most expanding countries.I've always admired the history and peoples devotion to the traditions of that culture

Re: Which is the most reserved and unfriendly nation?"Reserved" and "unfriendly" are so different that they're almost contradictory.(Original post by fellowjoe)
I know there are bad, unfriendly, reserved and rude people everywhere but it also seems that the extent of openness and friendliness varies between different nationalities and cultures.
That said, based on your experiences, which one is the most and least reserved and friendly nation ?
Better near-synonyms for reserved would be respectful, considerate, private.
There is nothing unfriendly about not imposing yourself upon others. -
Re: Which is the most reserved and unfriendly nation?
IMO....
The British, Japanese and Koreans are some of the friendliest and most polite yet reserved people around. Even after knowing them for a long time, rarely would you get invited to their parties and events.
The French can be rude and reserved unless you make an effort to speak French to them.
Canadians can be friendly and reserved depending on which province you go to (people in Toronto can be pretty uptight and reserved as compared to Albertans and British Columbians).
Australians generally are pretty friendly and humorous and fun to be around though some can be quite reserved and display subtle racism.
By far, the Americans are the most outgoing, friendliest and least reserved people that i have met of all.
