Move away - Change to nearer branch?
I'm planning to open a student bank account at Barclays. At the moment I live in North London and I know I'll be moving to East London within next month. The distance would be at least 2 hours by tube. I'm looking for a job and of course they require a bank account.

Should I wait or open a bank account now and then switch branch later?

Surely there will be a branch of Barclays in East London close to you?

There are probably very few advantages to actually moving branch, since everything is so centralised and internet-based these days. I assume you do mean branch rather than bank. Obviously there is no reason to move bank.

I was wondering if changing branch (same bank) is going to be a lot of work since they are owned by individuals? I wanted to open an account in East London but I don't think my current postcode (in north london) is going to be accepted.. Maybe if I find a new place and have the contract signed beforehand it may work. However I'm kind of in a rush..

I was living on the south coast of England (temporarily) when I opened my bank account (HSBC) but moved back to North Wales shortly after. My actual branch (which is indicated by my sort code) is still where I originally opened the account, but I just use a local branch if I need to go into the bank. I can't just "move" my branch - I would have to actually close my account and open a new one.

tl;dr It doesn't matter in which branch you open an account, you can use them all.

You can 'bank' at any Barclays branch even if it is not your home one.
