Re: Canada's Class of 2012McGill as well. UBC? The California of Canada.(Original post by fellowjoe)
Apart from myself, who is heading to Canada this fall? Just thought it would be nice to know each other since we are more-or-less on the same boat
I'm heading to UBC (Vancouver) by the way, so where will you guys be at?

Re: Canada's Class of 2012Haha yeahh it looks lush mate. Although, I have had enough of maritime climate in the South East of England so I won't mind being on the East side. Also, my parents couldn't afford UBC. Toronto seems a bit boring imo sorry U of T people.(Original post by fellowjoe)
Yeah pretty much, Vancouver is also often compared to LA and SF.
Which course are you doing in McGill?
I plan to do Joint Honours Economics and Finance and yourself? -

Yeah i agree with the boring part. It offers neither the culturally rich European feel that Montreal possesses nor the beautiful urban-nature setting that Vancouver has. And i heard terrible stories of how UofT is a serious GPA killer! -
Re: Canada's Class of 2012Noice, you going for honours or major? UBC's academic reputation for the Arts especially social sciences is world class(Original post by fellowjoe)

Montreal should be fun, although the cold winter is the only problem I feel. French vibe sounds very sexy
Vancouver is a nice holiday destination, I would get so distracted by the beach :P
McGill and U of T deflate a lot I hear but grad schools and employers are aware so its ok. I duno about UBC although it was a McGill campus, so I expect it to be not too far off. -
Re: Canada's Class of 2012A more frequent comparison would be between Vancity and Seattle since they have pretty much the same climate, natural setting and demographics.(Original post by whimisicalJ)
I never knew Vancity was ever compared to LA or SF, it's unique in its own way. Nothing like LA for sure, we have mountains and people are more friendly. As for SF, we're larger in a geographic sense, and you may find a larger group of Asians and other cultures here than in SF.

But the comparison to LA was partly because of the film industry's presence and the demographics and overpriced real estate is quite similar to SF's situation. -
Wreck beach is what you're referring to. I'm sure you'll have fun..(Original post by fellowjoe)
Yeah i heard there's a nude beach right beside UBC which many people go over in the summer, and they also have this undies run held annually. Sounds quite fun! The best part about Vancity is the cooler summers and milder winters.
But Montreal seems good too! I'm already considering it for my exchange though i'm only in first year now.
Are you able to speak French?
You should check out the UBC Lipdub on YouTube with Pink's Raise Your Glass. It'll give you a sense of the spirit on campus. (By the way, we had the highest number of viewers compared to other unis).
UBC is awesome and you'll definitely not regret making that choice.
I also highly recommend majoring in political science, but be aware lectures are very popular among students in terms of registration.

Vancouver is awesome I hear, if I only I had the dosh. Yeh from pictures I assume Montreal is like European NYC and Vancouver is Canadian California, both places are amazing.
Lool, that is weird I was considering UBC for one year.
Non.

I went to UBC for my undergraduate. If you're looking into Canadian law schools, any Canadian law schools are good since we only have about one or two across each province. To name a few UBC, UofT, Osgoode Law School (York University), Dalhousie Law school, UVic, UofA and UofC are great schools. If you're looking into studying law school school in Canada, you need to finish at least 3yrs of undergrad and a Law School Admission Test (LSAT) before you can qualify to apply for JD.
It's definitely great to start planning ahead.
