Canada's Class of 2012
Discussion for those studying in the United States and Canada

Re: Canada's Class of 2012Hey man, how was your overseas trip?(Original post by Ishamo)
McGill U1 Political Science Major.
Oh NAISE. Which faculty were you from?(Original post by whimisicalJ)
I went to UBC for my undergraduate. If you're looking into Canadian law schools, any Canadian law schools are good since we only have about one or two across each province. To name a few UBC, UofT, Osgoode Law School (York University), Dalhousie Law school, UVic, UofA and UofC are great schools. If you're looking into studying law school school in Canada, you need to finish at least 3yrs of undergrad and a Law School Admission Test (LSAT) before you can qualify to apply for JD.
It's definitely great to start planning ahead.
Lol i doubt so, it should be mostly UBC people going to that beach since its just right beside it hahah.(Original post by Yash13)
Haha awesome. As long as it ain't a bunch of oldies taking their clothes off
Vancouver is awesome I hear, if I only I had the dosh. Yeh from pictures I assume Montreal is like European NYC and Vancouver is Canadian California, both places are amazing.
Lool, that is weird I was considering UBC for one year.
Non.
Actually i was considering McGill too but it just turned me off when i heard from my friend about the French road signs and how off-campus work usually require French.Last edited by fellowjoe; 01-07-2012 at 17:40. -
Re: Canada's Class of 2012Yes mate.(Original post by Ishamo)

Thanks, my friends and family think I am weird for thinking about graduate studies before starting undergrad.(Original post by whimisicalJ)

Nice what did you read at UBC?
Ok would you by any chance know which is the best Law School for job prospects/prestige? Also, there is inertia right meaning a Canadian JD is only for practising in Canada and is not portable to e.g. US. I can't afford US Law School even though that would be a dream to go to an Ivy League to read law. I like the sound of UBC because its in Vancouver, and their Law School is good right? -
Re: Canada's Class of 2012Haha yeah nah I am just joking, Vancouver will have sexy people.(Original post by fellowjoe)

LOOL. I felt the same way but I would like a bit of European vibe being from the UK. -

Sorry, didn't get your first question.
As for job prospects, i'm not too sure. Unlike Europe or US, because we don't have a lot of schools, it essentially means harder to get in and more competition, but essentially it all depends on how hard you work for it.
UBC law is challenging to get accepted. On avg, they accept about 150-200 each year, I think. It is weighed equivalently on both grades and LSAT score, and it is highly dependable on the pool of applicants in terms of what the average is. For 2012, the average was 86% and 166 (LSAT). It is higher than the previous year, but it could change or increase slightly over the next few years.
You are accurate, professional training in North America can only be practiced in their own country. Your Canadian JD will only allow you to practice in Canada only, and because we have 10 provinces and 3 territories, they also administer slightly different provincial laws.
If you want to study elsewhere, you can do that and just convert your degree in Canada afterwards.

Re: Canada's Class of 2012I am from the UK so parents will have to fund it, even though it is normal for domestic fees in the UK to be cheaper it turns out austerity measures in the UK make Canada cheaper for me. Where are you off to?(Original post by Obscenedilemma)
How are you guys funding this all? parents? and is canada cheaper than the UK/America? -
Re: Canada's Class of 2012it is MOST DEFINITELY a bunch of old people whipping their clothes off. The number of times I've come face to face with a naked old man on my runs...and they want to have completely rational conversations....(Original post by fellowjoe)

I can picture how you would have reacted haha... -
Re: Canada's Class of 2012I'm applying next year but there's no way my parents would pay for me to go to Canada when I can go Uni here and be better off etc so Canada's a bit of a dream atm. I don't know what the situation with cda is tbh with you, I have a friend that goes Uvic tells me it's amazing.(Original post by Yash13)

Re: Canada's Class of 2012Probably because UVic is in sort of an island and you need to take the ferry to just reach there. Feels good to be surrounded by the water in a sense(Original post by Obscenedilemma)
