    Hi all,
I have got this essay question recently and need some help, here it is:

"The entire house is described in metaphor or imitation - which may be metphor for the fleeting nature of materialism" How far do you agree?

Please may I have some suggestions/ paragraphs which I could include in my essay.

    Thankyou very much

Ok, well think about certain aspects of Gatsby's house that really stand out.

-The idea of excess, debauchery etc, in his parties, everything is in excess, food, music, alcohol etc (and remember alcohol was prohibited), this represents materialism etc...
-The library in his house is filled with real books, and this is a surprise to them
-Gatsby's parties etc, could they be considered a microcosm of American Society? The Jazz Age?
