Don't we just need to know 400-700nm is visible and that less than 400nm is ultraviolet region and more than 700nm is infrared region?
yes.. this is how i worked out

Explain how damping and the plastic deformation of ductile materials reduce the amplitude of oscillation.Could someone please give a short note on this?

ductile material deforms under tension in which a large plastic deformation is produced.large amount of energy is absorbed, therefore reducing the energy from the system.

Beta decay always produces both an electron and a neutrino.

But often this will be accompanied by gamma radiation.

Are standard candles used to find the distance of other stars with the same luminosity? Or is a standard candle simply a body with a certain luminosity which we can find the distance of. And are cepheid variables types of standard candles? Thanks

yes standard candles are used for fixing long distances when we can't use parallax. They're supernovae or ceppheid variable as you said with a known luminosity. We can observe its apparent brightness, its flux and than use the inverse square law for the distances. Hoped this helped

Thought it was a PM exam, didn't revise much after 2 pm yesterday, thinking I had the whole morning to revise. Watched football, listened to some music, was about to get into bed at 23.30, looked the exam timetable, realised it was an AM exam, panicked for about 20 minutes. Decided to set my alarm for 5 AM to revise . Let's hope this doesn't mess up my grade.

wein's law seems to show that hotter stars are redder (have a shorter wavlength) this is not true though?????

Red light has a longer wavelength than blue light.

Have you got any more exams left? If so, then just get this one out of your head and concentrate on the rest.
