Thank you! Im worried though my final came from the printer glossy and strange which is my fault since the computer dimensions werent in proportion to a3 so it was kind of zoomed out. It should have looked like this but it was zoomed in:

I dont have the original image but i have a scene i put it into:

Advanced higher sounds really interesting and I think I would enjoy it, but I enjoy art for fun rather than to study at university level. So I chose not to.

If you are doing higher this year you must be amazing!
Are you doing advanced in 5th year?

Yes I understand what you mean . I never intended to take higher art because I want to do law and want to have as many subject choices that would actually allow me to study that at uni. And art is not one of them!

What are you taking btw and what do you want to do afterwards?

Aw thanks- well let's just say that I can draw and paint better than most people! The change was made a few days before the sqa folio deadline. I got the head of art teaching me for the last few months and that is when I really started working hard. I was actually told previously that I would fail int2 and get dropped to int1 or even access 3 because I produced hardly any work because I worked so slow . The head of art was really impressed with my work and made a proposition with me the weekend before the deadline (I know I work ridiculously slow) to get all my work finish and he would try and persuade the school to change my level.

So I eventually got everything finished a few hours before the school started to pack up the folios in boxes and send them away lol! Next time I think working faster is a better idea.

Well my art teacher decided to let me do higher because he thought that it would be pointless for me to sit int2 because I would get a band 1 A according to him. And he was also really dissapointed that I was not taking higher art so he let me do it this year so that I could continue doing it. I am not sure if I am doing advanced higher art yet. We spoke about it a while ago and he would let me do my five higher in 5th year and an advanced higher in art outside of classtime over two years...if I wanted. There will be no way in hell of me finishing it in one year! I am not sure If I can do it because everybody says 5th year is the hardest year.

Five highers is hard enough...but an additional advanced higher? Doubt I could cope with the workload :P.

Don't worry! You won't need to talk / converse with them during the exam :3 There's no need to be intimidated!!
    Hopefully I won't need to !

I stayed over in some classes to do extra work in art and most of the 5th year pupils are not the ones who are...you know...nice .

I want to study Law too. Thats why I want to focus more on social science subjects next year as universities recommend them.

If you are doing 5 highers next year doing another advanced would be suicide, my friend in the year above spends all her time at lunch and interval in the art class, ah art demands so much time.

Good luck! Have you got any images of your work? you sound really talented hehe!

Oh cool . I have always wanted to do law but I am not sure which aspect of it yet! There is still lots of time to decide. Yeah the social sciences and english are particulary important. I am taking history, modern studies, english ,french and biology. I was considering maths but I find most of the stuff too confusing and difficult O_O. What about you?

I know, I just don't have the time (or knack) to stay after school and during lunch on a regular basis. I might do it- it will depend. If I do it over two years then I can do maybe a third of the work in 5th year and the rest in 6th. But then that will mean I will have 4 advanced highers to do. Too much work!!!

I never actually took any photos of my work. Hardly anybody saw my work before it got sent off- even my parents did not get to see it lol xD. Well when the work comes back I will post up a few pictures .

You don't have to do Advanced Highers for every subject you take in 5th year And in my school anyway, Advanced Higher Art takes up 2 columns so I could only take 3 subjects for next year anyway!

For the Art Exam, can I just discuss about my 2 artists and 2 of their artworks and so on for the designers?

That's what my art teacher said was a good method

Hey, I'm needing some help with the Art Studies section of the exam and was wondering if any of you guys could help me?

I'm comparing paintings by Degas and Picasso. It says on the study sheet that I've been given to learn 2 paintings by each artist but I thought it was only one by each that we had to write about.

So, I have to know, is it 2 or 1?

    Thanks

    You need to compare twice.
Which makes comparison 1: degas #1 picasso #1
    comparison 2: degas #2 picasso #2

Im comparing my artists darker years: goya's saturn devouring his son and bellany in hospital..
Then im comparing their perceptions of historical events: Goya napoleonic invasion and bellany the holocaust.

Oh right. See, for my prelim, I structured it like this:

    1. Intro relating to question.
    2. Background and inspiration of degas
    3. Painting by degas (described methods, style etc.)
    4. Background and inspiration of Picasso
    5. Painting by Picasso
    6. Compared them
    7. Conclusion.

So would I be better doing it like this:

    1. Intro
    2. Background and inspiration of degas
    3. Painting by degas
    4. Painting by picasso
    5. Compare them
    6. Painting by Degas
    7. Painting by Picasso
    8. Compare them
    9. Conclusion

Or is there a better way?

The 2nd way is better! The essay focuses more on your ability to notice the similarities and differences and compare the artists and with your 1st structure you might focus too much on the artists, thats what i do hehe! Good luck!

Thanks so much This is the first time I've actually sat down and studied for the exam -_- I've been way more focused on my other ones. I got an A for my prelim, but I feel my art teacher hasn't really marked them properly and I wouldn't have gotten such a good grade for the actual exam. I hope it goes well and good luck to you aswell

The way I do my essays are:
Introduction relating to task (two artists/designers who for example work in different styles/have similar styles/something else)
Paragraph on each artist/designer's history, their movement and so on
Compare artists/designers on about 9 different things (line, tone, shape, form, colour, texture, pattern, etc etc for expressive)
    Conclusion

That always seems to get me around 16/20 marks in the Part B

There isn't a specific way to answer the question...you just need to answer it! Think of it like an english essay. I write bios then cross compare the works- my teacher told me that cross comparing was easier and saves time- if you are able to do that.

My essay structure which I will be using tomorrow is:

    1. Introduction to the question using the keywords to answer it. Say what you will be discussing etc
    2. Brief bio with important points on first artist
    3. Brief bio with important points on second artist
    4. Introduce the two works and then cross compare the main features: shape, line, tone etc (this should be the main body of the essay)
    5. Write a short conclusion and again answer the question

    Good luck everyone!

Hi I'm considering taking higher art, and I was wondering how much of a step up it is from intermediate 2? I got 37/40 on my prelim, and a have photos of my folio for this year if it would help, but I hear a lot of people regret Higher art, and struggle to find the time for the folio.

We did standard grade and it wasn't too big a step up.
It is really demanding and you have to work hard.
Can I see photos of your folio please?
