Hi I'm considering taking higher art, and I was wondering how much of a step up it is from intermediate 2? I got 37/40 on my prelim, and a have photos of my folio for this year if it would help, but I hear a lot of people regret Higher art, and struggle to find the time for the folio.
I got a one in SG, I hate art now - I SO regret taking it, it's (in my opinion) really tough to get a good grade and I'm just praying for a B. Then again, I'm a very 'mathsy' person, so if you like art then go for it, you're obviously talented

The writing is very much similar to Int 2 and you seem to have a good grasp so can't see much struggle there. The folio work is very time consuming and you do need to put the hours in to get a good grade. If you enjoy art and are reasonably good at the practical side, then go for it! Art was one of my 'things' at school and for the most part I found it very enjoyable plus it was nice to have an escape from the other highers where I could just tune out and paint.

Anyone know the pass marks for the exam tomorrow? For our prelim it was 85% to get an A, is it really that high?..

It's hard to say really because you're better looking at it overall (with folios)
    Yet 85% is reaally high

An A grade pass tends to hover around the 70% mark. Just had a look and for 2011 and 2010, an A grade pass has been at 70%. An A1, however, was at 85%.

We did standard grade and it wasn't too big a step up.
It is really demanding and you have to work hard.
Can I see photos of your folio please?
They're not the best photos, but i ended up taking them about 8pm the day before the deadline

Everything surrounds the actual painting/design, you talk about what inspired it to be made, what the artist used, why he used it, some history about the painting and then do the same for another painting then compare. Thats what im doing anyway hehe/.

My teacher has said that in the Part B you can only get about 16/20 for comparison and there are 4 marks for each question in your knowledge about the artists/designers.

Just to anyone fretting about the exam tomorrow, The number of marks needed to get an A last year were 154/220. You get 160 marks for the folio in total, so essentially even if you do less than 50% (<30 marks) in the exam, as long as your folio is impressive you can still get an A. I found that in my school everyone seems to do better in their folio than their exam. I got 33/60 in my prelim paper but I've been estimated an A overall because of my folio. The way the SQA mark it is good for people who aren't very good at written examinations (ie me.)

Lalique: most influential glass artist, one of the only few to make the transition from art nouveau to art deco, pioneered new glass techniques
Matisse: most influential decorative artist of the 20th century, used colour like nobody else, inspired abstract expressionism

So happy! Couldn't have asked for better questions! I studied Phillipe Starck/Charles Rennie MackIntosh and Samuel John Peploe/Paul Cezanne.

I did Phillipe Starck/Louis Comfort Tiffany and Paul Cezanne/James Fullarton. I liked the Part B's but the Part A's were really odd?

They were different but I think it gave me more to write about to be honest because they were so unusual, especially the still life.

I thought the paper was no bother whatsoever, part b's were the same as usual, so all good, and the part a's were decent too! Especially the Fashion part a was a total breeze! The Portraiture part a was okaaay.. but not too hard.

I studied Van Gogh and Picasso as my artists and Westwood and Chanel as my designers. Paper was greaaat! Estimated as A's for my folio, so just hope this turns out good too

I thought the Still Life was really interesting but I got a bit sidetracked by what Behrens was trying to portray in the still life than actually analysing it properly. I didn't know what to do about the chair at all, except that it would have a limited market
