    where to apply?
I am from the US and want to go to university in England. I will be applying to york and durham but want a back up that I can get in. What unis are similar to york and durham but much easier to get into? Thanks!

It really depends on what you want to study. Different uni's have different ratings for various courses.

Similar in what way? The collegiate system? The type of town? The region? The course content?

I liked the collegiate systems at both but it is not mandatory. I don't mind much what region it is in, but I want to stay away from London. I'm looking at universities with a campus (not just part of the city) and around about 10,000 undergrads.

    Lancaster, perhaps?

It's got a semi-collegiate system, a bit like York. It's well reputed and is outside of London. I hear the biggest issue is that there's sod all in Lancaster.

And Lancaster's not actually the nearest place, either.
