The national welfare state is based on greed, and is NOT compassionate or altruistic.

The welfare system does not have emotions. I was careful in my OP to distinguish between net recipients and net contributors. People who are dependent on the welfare state can not do so for compassionate reasons because they are not giving anything into it.
Those dependent on the welfare state are giving into it, it's called VAT. And just because they are dependent now doesn't mean they always were or always will be. Wow, deja vu.
Those who pay into the welfare state do so partly because it may well keep them alive at some point, but also because they care about keeping other people alive as well.
    Happy?

Do you know what "net" means? People on welfare are net recipients by far and thus do not give into the system. Let's say there is a central pot. I take 100 pounds from it, then put 10 back in. Am I a contributor?

If they wanted to keep other people alive why not just give to charity? I dealt with this in my OP ffs.
