Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable? How about the energy cost and the environmental costs in producing the water you get from your taps so it can be degraded in that way.(Original post by original_username)
I think water fights in places where there is a hose pipe ban sort of defeats the object. That's the only reason I can think of to not let kids enjoy themselves having a water fight but otherwise I see no problem with. We over consume everything in the developed world, water for me isn't high on the agenda of what we should be cutting down on. -

Clean water isn't a privelages we've ended up with by chance. Centuries of innovation and invention have gone into providing us with clean water, why shouldn't we enjoy the benefits. Yes water could be sent to Africa but that won't fix the problem and would be very expensive, the better solution would be help them make use of the water they do have.

Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?
Water fights generally take place on grass or in the street, so the ''wasted'' water will fall onto the grass, where it will be watered, thus surviving. Same with plants, if the fight is near plants.
If it takes place in a street, the ''wasted'' water will go into the drain, where it will eventually be cleaned and made safe by water purification plants, and will be reused.
You've probably drank a few water fights in your time, so how is it ''wasted''? -
Re: Is playing water fight acceptable?Terrible comparison, showering is necessary, water fights are not.(Original post by Axion)
why dont you not have a shower for 30 days running. its the same principle.
Its not easy to redistribute water to other parts of the world. -
Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?
even if using the water for a water fight actually used it up, rather than cycling it back into the environment or drains, saying that it's wasted is a value judgement that the use of resources for joy and entertainment is a waste.
of course, it's not actually used up -
Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable? How is it being degraded? You can't tell people what they can and can't use the water they pay for for. The amount of water wasted by the consumers via water fights pales into insignificance when you see how much water is wasted through leaks in the pipe system that the water companies have neglected over the years.(Original post by Casshern1456)

You have my permission don't worry. My water comes from Wales so I have no hose pipe ban and wont be having one either(Original post by madders94)

Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?I just think there are so many more alternatives you could have chosen than to use water in a wasteful manner. Granted in Wales you don't have a hosepipe ban but it doesn't mean producing that water won't cost the environment.(Original post by madders94)

Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?
Bit of a biased question "vote yes if you think we can waste water"
Water fights aren't a waste, they're awesome! (On a more serious note, the amount of global water supplies that are "squandered" on water fights per year must be astronomically tiny compared to the amount wasted by leaving the water running when you brush our teeth for example)

Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?I'm guessing you would be the one to buy CoCa Cola drinks and Starbucks coffee too they use gallons and gallons of water just to produce that 250ml of coffee on your table every morning. Not an attack on you personally, but I do think that is a astonishing waste of water. And you could do more to help the environment by purchasing ready made packets of coffee bean.(Original post by original_username)

Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?Let me think you wouldn't be playing water fights in the middle of Winter so why is it acceptable in Summer it's no more than to keep you occupied for a few hours at the expense of the environment - i don't think with the resources of the first world you could die without splashing water on yourself.(Original post by madders94)
Such as?
*read a book outdoor
*have a cool fresh drink
*hang out with mates without using water...
*watch a film whilst fanning yourself?
there are many more. Can you be creative?? lol -
Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?Erm, it's warm. I want to be outside, and I want to cool down.(Original post by Casshern1456)

So, reading a book is out because it's so hot.
Cool fresh drink works for about five minutes, and I'm also struggling to drink atm.
Friends are all busy and live too far away, boyfriend was busy.
Watching a film - don't want to be inside on a hot day. Fanning myself = pointless, doesn't work.
Anyway, today I am going to single-handedly solve the water crisis by not using the hosepipe and going down the beach instead

Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?I completely understand that, however we are unconscious of leaving the tap running and turn it off as soon as we spot it to reduce water waste, so why it is acceptable to then go and open the taps to full blast so we can have a water fight?(Original post by KCosmo)

I think should think of ourselves rather than say major companies like Starbucks waste millions of gallons of water every day so our habits are tiny in comparison.
It's the same reason with recycling waste *oh we could never match the wastage from this and this so we should not recycle at all*???

Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?Only ever been to Starbucks once, and that was to use their internet, for which I bought a cup of tea.(Original post by Casshern1456)

I'm a sucker for fizzy pop and coca cola do make a lot of good ones
Companies are starting to cut down on water wastage as part of ISO14001 which is a step in the right direction, I just don't place is high on my agenda. -
Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable? So what do you drink then?(Original post by Casshern1456)

That doesn't waste water?

Re: Are we taking it for granted, is playing water fights still acceptable?I drink water sometimes from the tap, don't usually go buy canned drinks or bottled ones because i don;t want to fuel the demand for the drinks companies. It just seem in the Western countries we don't do enough, we take one step forwards then two steps back.
