Medical subjects, generally. The two I applied for (Optometry and Orthoptics) have a 99%+ employment rate after graduation.

Not as well-paid as, say, medicine, but id take that employment rate with those grades any day.

The complete list of average starting salaries can be found here:

    http://www.thecompleteuniversityguid...raduates-earn/

    Here are the Top five:

    Dentistry - £30,293
    Medicine -£29,132
    Chemical Engineering -£27,195
    General Engineering - £26,542
    Economics - £25,722

Of course, this list only has starting salaries, and says nothing about salaries over the span of a career, but it's better than saying degree X based on nothing.
Doctors really don't start on 29k...

Maths. It's a very versatile degree in terms of what you can do afterwards.
Agree with this, you can go into a wide variety of jobs.

It is. As is engineering. Good long term prospects perhaps, but for the next few years at least, if you're a graduate in those subjects with no experience, good luck.

Well career prospects are really quite individual, especially now when employers are looking for much more than just a degree. But if I had to say, probably engineering. Maybe I'm biased, but it's quantitative enough for you to be able to handle most numerate jobs, and there's more of an emphasis on developing the softer skills (presenting, communication, teamwork, time management, etc) than a pure science because of the multi-disciplinary nature of the industry. As well as the fact you'll often be bidding for projects.

    Yes they do

For a doctor in specialist training the basic starting salary is £29,705. If the doctor is contracted to work more than 40 hours and/or to work outside 7am-7pm Monday to Friday, they will receive an additional supplement which will normally be between 20% and 50% of basic salary. This supplement is based on the extra hours worked above a 40 hour standard working week and the intensity of the work.

Definitely leaning towards the STEM subjects. Either those or vocational ones, like people have listed.

Get a good degree from a decent University in one of these subjects (or a similar one) and you will never have to worry about finding a job, or money.

    Good luck.

    Yes you will.

no they don't unless all the knowledge I've had as well as the NHS website is incorrect with a figure of £22k

Specialty training is 3rd year of working in medicine.
But doesn't the first year of foundation training pretty much form the final year of medical school, meaning that it is pretty much like a year in industry, and not counted?

I assume that they start counting from specialty training, as I think that's the first non foundation year, but they could start at the second year of foundation, in which case the official figures of £27k still roughly correspond with the CUG's value of £29K, as I presume that salaries will vary around this value.

The info you found is correct for some, I'm sure, but not all.

The figure given was an average.

E.g. my housemate started on £32k before she was fully qualified.

I plan on doing an undergrad in Law and then one, or two, postgrads in business related fields. Law is competitive and difficult so if I pass people will take notice, and business is useful and always needed everywhere.

Universities are currently trying to over train doctors to saturate the job market so that they can lower the wages in the long term and cut costs of the NHS, trying to hit the government objectives in the annual budget.

So, maybe in the next few years medicine won't be the degree to have as everyone is making out, despite me wanting to do it haha

Medicine for one, although you may not find the job that you want due to competition bottlenecks further up the food chain
