If you work hard you can drastically improve - for my Physics exam I got 27% percent in the prelim, and I was asked if I wanted to leave the course.

But I persevered, and it paid off - I got a C in the final exam. Doesn't sound amazing, but I was terrible at Physics compared to my other subjects, I was so happy to get even a pass!

So study , study, study - it's worth it in the end!

i got BCC at AS, re-sat 4 exams in january and got the exact same grade on both my biology papers as i did at AS. then re-sat 2 more AS exams during the summer along with my other A2 exams. ended up with A*BB and i got into my first choice uni for Law.

i honestly, thought it was impossible, i didnt think it was do-able, most of my teachers and tutors encouraged me to apply to lower ranking unis cos they thought i wouldnt get the grades for the unis i wanted to go to but really, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. you can start off at AS with the worst grades ever and still making something of yourself, only thing standing in your way is yourself! there'll always be loads of negativity and teachers who want you to be "realistic" with your options, but you work your ass off and beleive me, it will pay off

I couldn't be arsed at school, wasn't interested came out with a handful of B's and C's at GCSE purely on the exams as I did no course work. Last year I left my job of 5 years with a bank and went back to college to do the Access course (A level equivalent 1 year course) Just finished last week and have 15 credits at Distiction in Chemistry and 15 in Advance Maths, 9 Distictions and 6 Merits in English Litt and 15 Distictions in Study skills, overall 54 Distictions and 6 Merits (15D= A so equivalant AAA and high B). Starting a 4 year Mchem course in October at Southampton Uni.
Also had offers from Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Winchester and Surrey

Doesn't matter what you've done before, all that matters is what you want to do in the future.

Carried on the ABC subjects, got AA*A and got into medicine, I had to wait to apply on my gap year.
The C was in chemistry and I was devastated.
You just need to work hard, it'll be worth it.

I have to say unless there were particular circumstances that lead to you getting those grades, and those grades aren't normal for you [you had personal/home problems] then it's unlikely you will out of the blue push yourself up a whole grade in every single subject. Not that it's impossible, but if it was common you'd see people do it all the time, and it's not something you see, pretty much ever.

I got BBCD at AS.. I dropped one of the B's and carried on with the BCD because I knew I hadn't put in enough effort it. I literally pulled a GCSE and revised the night before exams. Anyways, for the next exams I never did too well again. However, come A2 year I put my head down on retakes and planned a split of my retakes for january and june. The january exams went slick and I did well in retakes etc, and got my grades up to BBB. Now all I have to do is well in my A2 exams and I can still get AAA..Minimum I want is ABB because I know thats realistic, but the 2 other A's will be hard and hopefully I can make it.

Are you just putting in more hours or changing the way you work ?

I actually still barely put in any effort compared to other people lol. I just tried UNDERSTANDING the work more, and trying to enjoy it by reading wiki articles on things like diseases in biology, and understanding shiz by surfing the webs. The only difference in terms of study is a bit more study closer to exams and my college frees where i'd chill with people and just sit around the college doing nothing were spent in the study centre instead, going over stuff.

I've been in your position before lol. If you're AS, its not the end of the world.. just suck it up and get motivated to do your A2. One of the main motivations for me is when my dad called me a failure lmfao, and I wanted to prove him wrong.

At gcse i was predicted B/C/Ds and one A because i cheated on geog year 10 mock haha. my french teacher tried to kick me off french gcse all together. my school said they wouldn't advise i stay on for sixth form, no one had an ounce of faith in me including my parents. i proved everyone wrong by working hard for a solid term or so and got all As at gcse so if i can do it anyone can !

theres a thing called retakes my friend, i think the OP mentioned they had sat a few retakes, so their grades could be pushed up by a whole one

got BCCC at AS after doing no school work for the whole year and spending too much time socialising working and with my girlfriend. Did 4 re-sits in jan along with two A2's and got my AS grades up to AAAC, done two more different retakes this time and hoping to have got A's in both of them. Of the A2 modules I know so far I've got a*b (bio 6 and 4) b(dram4) and a(history coursework) so I'm now on course for AAA at A2 and hopefully can squeeze A*'s in history and general studies. Have an offer from Exeter for biology so it is possible to turn things around (yn)

But this forum is solid proof of people being able to push themselves up a whole grade or two right?
I think my reason for getting those AS grades are mainly due to the fact it was my first attempt at such exams, I rarely did past papers however I revised extremely hard. Second time round I've learnt how best to revise and answer exam style questions etc. My best friend went from a U to an A so and thats 5 whole grades so ...

I know I'm just saying even with retakes a lot of people's grades don't go up much unless there was some good reason for them failing in the first place

I disagree with this completely, most people do better at A2 than they did at AS, that's a proven fact.
