Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)
I'm a graduate with a 2.1 degree in English and German, but not sure what career I would like to go for, which makes it quite difficult! Salary is incredibly important to me, but I do not want to be stuck in a job that I am not even slightly passionate about either. Travel opportunities would be a big bonus, as I love to move about and would happily continue to live abroad!
1) Does anyone know any companies that offer graduate jobs with good starting salaries and the potential to earn a very good wage, ideally with travel opportunities?
2) My personal interests are writing, media/film, fashion. Does anyone know any good graduate jobs in one of these areas perhaps?
Please quote me if you reply. Hopefully someone will have some good ideas

Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)You're one of those people that thinks work should be loads of fun AND you should be really well paid? If it was fun, we'd do it for free...(Original post by Miss_Scarlet)

Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)
When you get posted to different areas you're typically expected to work whilst doing it and you won't get a choice in which nations or cities they are. You can travel around in a lot of industries from architecture to zoology and much of it depends on the business you yourself join. You could try tefl in foreign countries or whatever. The question you've asked really is too vague to answer properly.

Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)If these are your passions, then go out and do them. Write books in your spare time. Pick up a camera and get experience in filming shows/events, or make a documentary in something you're passionate about. If you don't know the basics in filming, then teach yourself or go on a course and learn by doing. If you're into fashion, start a blog or start a design portfolio or something (no idea about that industry) People rarely get a job in what they study, but actually going out and having something to show employers, showcasing your skills, helps rather than having a piece of paper!(Original post by Miss_Scarlet)

Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)It just annoys me when people think work should be something thoroughly enjoyable. Unless you're incredibly gifted at something, work is WORK. You do it to earn a living. Yes by all means do something that interests you, absolutely, but don't expect to enjoy working as much as going on blooming holidays! You're getting paid for it!(Original post by Chapeau Rouge)
You sound like a right joy to work with.

Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)Why should someone pay you to enjoy yourself? You're paid to work.. having interest in what you do can be enjoyable, but it is still work at the end of the day. If it was fun, people would do it for free. So unless you have some unique gift, I don't see why anyone should realistically expect work to be an extension of your free time.(Original post by Chapeau Rouge)
I don't think it's unreasonable to try to find some work you will enjoy. Then again aren't you the person with the grad offer for Deloitte? I can see why you doubt work can be thoroughly enjoyable...
Define 'enjoy'. I don't argue that you can't enjoy aspects of work, of course you can. Therefore you may 'enjoy' one job more then you would 'enjoy' another, but do you expect to enjoy a job as much as you're own free time where you're free to do whatever it is you like to do? If not then your enjoyment is only in comparison to other jobs you'd less like to do.
When it comes down to it, I pay to do things I enjoy. If I want to go on a holiday, I pay for it. If I want to go to the cinema, I pay for it. If I want to go out for a meal, I pay for it. I work in order to pay for those things I enjoy. If work was truly 'enjoyable' then why do we expect to be paid for it?
As for your snide remark regarding my job, I picked Deloitte because it is what I wanted to do. If I wanted to be doing something else, I'd have opted for one of my several other offers.. or indeed applied elsewhere. So nice try. -
Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)
I don't remember writing that I wanted a job to be an extension of my free time or overly enjoyable. I said I am looking for a job with some relation to my interests, ideally. Otherwise, something with opportunities to live abroad.
Having grown up in an International community in Europe, I don't particularly want to return to the UK and then live there forever. I would like a job with the potential to move somewhere new again. -
Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)Course not, you just want a very well paid job in writing or fashion which involves lots of travel abroad.(Original post by Miss_Scarlet)

OK I probably vented unduly on you, sorry about that, but the amount of people that I see on here moaning.. especially the ones who are on JSA but aren't willing to accept jobs which are 'beneath' them... grrrr!!!
I get mad and I need to vent

Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)OK, so you basically want 3 things for your job:(Original post by Miss_Scarlet)

- high salary
- opportunities to travel abroad
- related to your interests: writing/media/film/fashion
That's fine, I have exactly the same requirements (different interests though). But IMO, the problem here (and the reason nobody, including yourself, has been able to formulate a real suggestion) is the fact that most high paying grad jobs are not in the fields of your interests. So basically you can pick 2 out of the 3 requirements, but I don't think any grad-level job (i.e. straight out of uni) can meet all 3 in your case.
The only thing that comes remotely close is joining the marketing team of a large multinational organisation, but again the salary will probably not be high... -
Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)In fact they do, it's called being a travel writer. I have a friend who is paid to do just this, well, she writes articles/ blogs rather than books.(Original post by M1011)

Re: Jobs with travel opportunities (and graduate jobs?)OK you win, you found a job that fits the mould. I'm sure your friend is very well paid as well. There you go OP, apply to that, I'm sure there are plenty going.(Original post by biffyclyro27)

I'm looking for a job that involves interstellar travelling and a big white suit, can you think of any of those?
