Yea my teacher said his cwk was marked down in the 1st year of the new spec, so they sent him on a cwk marking course or something and last year he apparently marked harshly and thus marks went up 2nd time round lol.
I do my comp3 in the morning due to a clash... If you don't mind me asking, how did you do at AS?

I did AS in 2010, and got 172/200

105 in comp 1 and 67 in comp 2 (scaled)

scaled up in comp 2 but down in comp 1

    you?

I got 53 in Comp 2 & 87 in Comp 1. Long story short, I did rubbish. Fortunately I've gotten 61/75 in comp 4 assuming it stays the same, which would become 66 UMS meaning I need 74/120 from Comp 3 which I am really nervous about, which assuming comp 3 papers remain the same will be around 53/100... but I just have this terrible gut feeling that I won't achieve it. Tbh I should've not been lazy and should've resat Comp 2 when I had the chance...

ah, someone told me ages ago to work as hard as I could in AS to soften what is required in A2 to get the grade I want, so I revised like mad for comp 1 + 2 and got my A (the others in my class got BBDDD...)

I'm sure if you really focus on revising and build on topics you are weak at, you'll come out with the grade you want I wish I knew a rough coursework mark like you do so I could figure out what I roughly need to get in this exam!

Thing is, me and my teacher agreed that I would resit comp2 in my 3rd year I'd A2s because I went to college at 15. So I intended on finishing A2s this year, then if I had the grades I would apply to uni, otherwise I would make use of the extra year I have to resit modules to perfect my grades. But my parents had a sudden change of mind after it was too late so I ended up applying and ruining my plans because they decided I should go to uni at 17... so now I am under so much goddamn pressure.

wow... well, good luck to you, although I can't imagine what it'd feel like going to university age 17  I'm nervous going to uni at age 19 never mind 17....

if worse comes to worst and you don't get the grades to get into uni, you could do as you said and resit any modules..? then reapply for 2013?

Believe me... I don't want to go to Uni at 17, but I'm a tw^t who listens to his parents...
I don't mind if the worst comes to the worst, but I cba with how pissed of my Dad will get with me lol
Meh. Everything happens for a reason I guess. We had a small comp 3 mock in college consisting of questions from the past comp 3 papers and I got 70%. I'm pretty confident with regards to where I lose marks though I think. I hate number questions, mantissa exponential etc. I always manage to mess up with them some how...

This exam will require a lot of practice, we've got a week and a bit left, make good use of this time.

Yep. This is the only exam I have been worried about tbh, the only blessing about it is it is 2 and half weeks after the last exam I did so I have time to revise, and it's my last exam.

What a way to end a-levels

Haha it's such a weird amalgamation of topics that I really couldn't care less about. The programming concepts are the interesting topics but also the hardest to remember

That's funny as its my first exam so far, what a way to start. :L

Its in the book so I guess if you can it will help. They love using their endorsed book to ask questions (except a few omitted topics e.g. hashing) so use that!

No just just 16 bit floating point with 6 bit exponent and 10 bit mantissa

So just twos complement version? Hmm that's ok then. What are all algorithms we need to learn. I know Stacks and Queues Push and Popping. The others? Thanks

Annoying that the spec is so new and so vague. I keep thinking I know most of the theory and only having the same past paper questions to test it on! Here's a link that our teacher gave us for some flash cards if anyone wants them:

    Got an A* in COMP4.

When I look at this module, I feel like dying. Why is this paper even two and half hours in the first place?

I need 70/100 raw marks for an A.

These are some of the topics that I feel will come up this year, feel free to add
    • Hashing (Never came up before. Not even in the f****** textbook)
    • Binary tree travesal (Inorder, Preorder, Postorder)
    • Usual SQL + Database (Not sure if we have to fully normalise a database)
    • Usual real numbers (Involving decimal numbers which are negative and some simply theory related questions)
    • Operating systems (May involve some sort of long answer question comparing and contrasting different OS classifications)
    • Encryption (Not seen much of this come up, stuff about asymmetric encrytion in particular may come up)
    • All the threats from the WWW (Worms, Trojans, Phishing, Pharming etc)
    • Recursion (Don't really like this topic, but unfortunately they may ask it this year)

Please feel free to add more.

What do you think of my revision plan
03/06/12 - 05/06/12 COMPUTING REVISION GOING OVER NOTES
05/06/12 - 10/06/12 DO PAST PAPERS FROM OLD AND NEW SPEC
    11/06/12 GO OVER NOTES AGAIN

    Thanks

Are you sure? I reckon you would need much less than that for an A overall at A2, an A is 80%, your Coursework is currently 90%, so you need 70% (or 84 UMS) in Comp 3, and 84 UMS last year was 60 / 100. This is assuming you have an A as AS.

You could always work hard and go for 80/100 Raw, which would mean you get the cool A*, which you could probably do seeing as your coursework is extremely strong.

Got a high B last year . So I need roughly 70/100 for an A. Thing is, this is such a long module, and I am gonna be doing Computer Science at university. Luckily, it wont be just pure Computer Science, I can branch out after the first year.

I plan on just going over notes today, tomorrow and tuesday, and then just start doing all the CPT4, CPT5 papers
