Mood swings, feelings of being down.
Hi guys, it's took a lot for me to do this even if it is anon..

For about 8months I seem to be having severe mood swings. I put it down to a failing relationship that ended in a bad break up, however, that was 6month ago and still these are occurring still. In fact, the guy I was with kind of hinted as to that was why he broke up with me, because I was too 'up and down and all over the place'.

Sometimes I don't know whats happened like as though I have blacked out? I seem to have weeks where lifes fine, everything is swimmingly well, I have the bestest friends in the world and I look and feel fantastic..

Then other times I could cry. Cry, not sleep (I have been unable to have a lie in for about 2 weeks now, very unlike me, and i'm only a teenager also).. It seems like lots of late nights and very early mornings. I can become very anxious, tense and aggressive also.

To be honest, many people notice this but to me, I don't well not always. I seem to remember the lows better than the highs lol maybe this is perfectly normal teenage behavior, but i'd like for someone to put my mind at ease... I feel like am going crazy at times yet rationally and in my head, i'm aware there's nothing major happening to behave like this but still my emotions spill.

My last thing is that I never feel comfortable not truly. It's like when i feel happy, am forcing it. It's really extreme, very in your face lots and lots of talking about rubbish and laughing... Like nervous happiness ?

Hope someone can enlighten me as to the workings of the teenage mind ha.
    Thanks

    Sorry to hear this.

A break up, regardless of being good or bad, will always be tough. Sometimes it is far easier to just suppress (or ignore) your feelings than actually dealing with them.

Have you gone to see a doctor?

Nope. I fear they may think i'm a lunatic or something, overreacting so to speak.

They're not going to think you're a lunatic, they're not there to judge you or anything (plus they'll routinely see people with much more severe problems).

Swinging between depression and feeling fantastic could be signs of bipolar disorder. You should see your GP for an assessment, also bear in mind that untreated mental health conditions (if you have one) get worse over time so it's worth getting checked out.

There's also physical things it could be like thyroid problems, so definitely worth getting it looked into.

I went through years thinking that being depressed was just a teenage thing, then just blaming it on other things. In reality it's just that I suffer from bipolar depression and need medication.

i too have bipolar disorder and it took me 4 years of highs and lows before i got diagnosed, each cycle was worse than the previous one. if i were in your position i would go and check with a doctor first of all cause of the physical illnesses that might be connected with this kind of behaviour as exopaladin said and then for the mental illnesses. in any case you are not a lunatic!

I also have bi-polar disorder, (rapid cycling), where my moods are exactly the same and someone cheated on me. I had to see a doctor because it got so bad that now I am on medication which is working really well for me. I also go to some counselling sessions to go over how everything is.

If you're female and it seems to be on some kind of cycle then it could be pms.
It doesn't sound like a proper reason because people throw the term about so much but some
people suffer terribly, there's a thing called premenstrual dysphoric disorder which is a severe form.
I got these weeks where I felt like I had no control over my emotions, was irritable and if anything
bothered me at all I'd end up crying. Then for a few weeks after I'll be back to my normal self.
When I went to the doctor I just asked if it was a side effect of another med I was on
(made it not seem so ridiculous to talk about it)
