Got this the same time as c3 tomorrow.. really hoping i do well on m3 (c3 aswell ofcourse) I Generally know what to do with every question, just sometimes my algebra gives me the wrong solution but because its m3 even if it looks weird it could probably be right I really hope the proof for cofm of a semi-circle comes up! Been writing that one out over and over
Are you sure that you need that proof? I literally just read the text book and it said that it wasn't necessary. Pearson one btw, maybe you want to check up on it. I may be wrong...

This modules seriously messing me up. I hate the feeling of going into an exam with virtually no confidence, and that's gunna happen in just over 12 hours. :sadnod:

C3 will be hard, but easy at the same time, because it's C3 lol. Nice low grade boundaries hopefully.
M3 will be a holocaust just like M2 and M4... of which I sat both. I think 98 on M2 and like 50 on M4, that was just awful. You should take a look at M3 June 2009 if you want an idea of some challenging questions... just did the paper and got 50/75, it's pretty tough. Tomorrow's paper should be pretty similar in difficulty to that one, I'm expecting a difficult circular motion question but I'm not sure... any ideas guys?
Possibly double spring question, proving SHM etc, f***ing hate them.

Yeah, the jan 2012 paper was pretty easy for m3. So like m2, I think that this summer m3 will be a bit of a mind****!

    C4 + S3 on the 21st, followed by FP2 + S4 on the 22nd, followed by FP3 + M5 on the 25th. I am going to die.

    Praying for an easy paper.

With (further) maths modules, I tend to go through each exercise in chapters of the book (doing a few questions), and only then do I hit the past papers when I'm comfortable with the content. But with this module, I'm struggling to get into grips with the individual exercises, if that makes sense. It's just sooo hard. But provided I do well in the other modules (i.e. get 85UMS in s2, fp2 and fp3), I can still get an A* with 25UMS in M3. But in all honesty, even that is looking unachievable atm. FML.

Yeah you're right practice does make perfect. Thanks, good luck to you too
I don't think you understand how the A* works, you have to average 90+ in your BEST THREE A2 modules rather than all of them so if you say get 100UMS in FP2 and S2 you still need 70UMS in M3 so don't just give up. Best of luck to everyone also, the questions in the textbook are not all very good and are generally much more difficult than real questions

Yes, I'm talking about proving it, not remembering the actual formula. It's stated in the textbook that we need to know it.
proof by integration provided its a lamina xbar=int(xy)dx/int(y)dx

ok, so let me just get this straight, do we need to know proofs of the centres of masses, e.g. of a hemisphere, cone, hemispherical shell etc, even though this is given to us in the exam?
in the text book it says you never have to prove hemispherical shell but it can be done but the proof in the book actually requires you to devide through by 0 which always makes me laugh! conical shell is an easy one as you jsut state its made up of triangles and therefore by symmetry it is 1/3h. Lastly i have seen solid hemisphere and cone proofs in papers but you just do it with calculus which is pretty easy as you know at least what you want to end up with. Hope that helps

can anyone tell me if we need to know the derivation of the (2r sinα)/(3α) formula? im tokin about the example-7 on page 125 in the book.
As i just stated all the proofs apart from hemispherical shells are required and this one is a cracker i have to say as its harder than the hemispherical shell in my opinion but you just have to grind through x(a-x^2)^0.5 calculations im affraid! sorry to put a downer before the exam
