State Schools running IGCSEs?
Discussion for GCSE students, including those studying for IGCSEs and O Levels.

Re: State Schools running IGCSEs?I go to a public school in the UK. The only IGCSEs that are taken is Further Maths for people who got an A or A* in November.(Original post by GeneralHelpful)
Could anyone let me know of any UK state schools (i.e. NOT private, independent, fee-paying schools) that have started running the new IGCSE courses in English/English Lit?
I need to do some a research and maybe run an IGCSE pilot.
Many thanks in advance! -

Re: State Schools running IGCSEs?We've done the iGCSE English Language (CIE), and I'm doing my final exam for iGCSE English Literature tomorrow.(Original post by GeneralHelpful)

Obviously I can't give information on the latter, but for the former, we did an 8 week intensive course (3 hours a week, 2 drop-down days), and got a fantastic pass rate (80%).
I go to a state comprehensive, with a year group of 50 or so. Not fee-paying, nor grammar.

Re: State Schools running IGCSEs?Hello! Would it be possible for you to let me know which school it is by Inbox? I am NOT a stalker! Just a deputy head who is very interested in starting IGCSEs at my own school. We want to pilot it to see if we like it, but we wouldn't bother if we heard from normal schools who had tried it but didn't like it for some reason. I need to talk to a few Heads of English and so on. Obviously, it'd be easy to research some posh schools! But I'm only interested in what folks at state schools think, really.(Original post by c3ntury)

Re: State Schools running IGCSEs?Also! You say you did IGCSE English Language intensively? Does this mean that you also did a regular GCSE in English Language?(Original post by c3ntury)

The former was successful enough to result in us now doing iGCSE literature as well.(Original post by GeneralHelpful)

Re: State Schools running IGCSEs?hey, sorry to hijack this thread a tad. I am a state school pupil from London and my school chose to do IGCSE (CIE) a term in after doing AQA. To be frank, I had an appalling teacher, and, despite always being considered in the top 3 for English, I had a REALLY bad exam for both unseen and the set texts paper. Anyway, I did make up for the poor teaching through my own hard work and I went into detail whilst revising (e.g read criticisms of Julius Caesar by Ernest Schanzer, Granville Barker etc...) and I am definitely good enough to get an A*, but yep, as I said, I had a poor teacher and just didn't perform on the day. ANYWAY..(Original post by c3ntury)

What I wish to ask is the following:
(i)Despite the fact that the exam has just gone, do you have any tips for IGCSE literature in general, should I resit.
(ii)If I choose to resit next year (ie if I got a B), would I be able to take it with a different exam board, e.g WJEC?
Oh and also, how did people do in language? My school gave us no preparation, does that matter?
cheers
charles.
