Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
please do not buy her a dress. We can't help you because
a. we don't know what she looks like
b. her age
c. her taste
d. the occasion for the dress.
I had to take one of my friends (now ex) boyfriends back to the shop where he got this hideous dress from, and told her to just get her some jewellery or something, less of a risk.
Guys have no sense of how girls should dress, I'm sorry to tell you! She's set you an impossible task. -
Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
What sort of dresses does she wear now? Does she often wear pink and florals, because the dress is very girly? How does she like them to fit- neckline, waist, length etc? See how that compares to the dress...
Personally, the dress is lovely but not something I'd ever chose to wear. Beware of that- people often see clothes they like, but if it doesn't fit the rest of their wardrobe, doesn't look good on, or just isn't 'them' and then they won't feel comfortable in it and won't want to wear it out...
I think your best bet is to ask some of her friends for an opinion- they'll have a good idea of what sort of clothes she'll wear and won't be afraid to tell you if your barking up the wrong tree.Last edited by stac4321; 28-05-2012 at 13:04. -

Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
She is set on me getting her a dress. I've told her she probably wont like the one i get, but she doesn't care!
She doesn't really have a fixed fashion taste, her wardrobe is really varied!
She wants a dress that is short (doesn't cover knees), not a high waistline, kind of low cut as well. -
Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
I'd have a mooch in her wardrobe next time you're round to see what she has/which shops she likes and also ask her friends for advice because they'll know her best! (and it shows your girlfriend you're putting the ground work in!)
Bit of a tricky one! -
Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
I think it's a nice idea, especially if she wanted it too...anyway, I guess as long as you keep the bill, she could even exchange it for another one in the worst case

but if you are more or less attentive to her taste and a little bit up to date concerning fashion, I think you could trust yourself and your choice!
I personally like the first dress very much, it's simple and still very "girlish"...maybe that's also because I bought myself one that is quite close to this one...

but I also agree that it's probably a good idea to ask one or two of her close female friends to help you!!! -
Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions pleaseThat dress is gorgeous! Too bad is is £35 though(Original post by rubberdam123)

OP you know her the best, and from the two you linked to are, it seems she likes very girly dresses. Go with your instincts.
Also, do you know her size? Dress sizes can vary massively from shop to shop which can be problematic. -
