Personally, the dress is lovely but not something I'd ever chose to wear.

... I see.. well that is a very clever name.
.
Um.. girls of course can buy boy's things too.. when was that ever an issue?
And the girls that demand are the ones not worthy of your time.. (still it seems like it was the OP's idea to get the really expensive dresses, not the girl's)
, i had a girl who constantly kept wanting new things, just cause i brought her some ugg boots, everytime i went over to her college to meet her she would be expecting a pressy or then she'l be pissed at me lol glad i ended that one and with a keeper atm

Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions pleaseHow about Lipsy?(Original post by rubberdam123)
Hey, what do you girls think about this dress?
Feel free to link me any you think are nice as well.
http://www.asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2280872
e.g. http://www.lipsy.co.uk/store/day-dre...is-DR06227_031
It's quite a popular brand for dresses and they're not too expensive as well.
If she's got good legs, and you think she's got good legs, then a short summer dress will show off her legs and make her feel good about herself. And if she's feeling extra good about her body it might encourage her to let you do certain extra things with her body.

Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions pleaseI do like to date exceptional people, of course!

I guess I think that straight men are capable of having good taste in clothes and that the whole 'lol no way a man could choose a nice dress' 'the girlfriend is just going to complain if he gets it slightly wrong' is a bit icky, and can't instill any confidence in a man who is slightly uncertain about a choosing a gift. -
Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
Don't worry too much about it. :-)
The fact that you're seeking advise and that your suggestions so far haven't been bad mean that you're safe. Seriously, I almost got lumbered with a yellow and black stripped dress once that looked like a wasp - you clearly have good taste. You've only been with her for four months so I don't think that shes expecting anything incredible that complements her in every way and blah blah blah.
Personally, I vote dress two. :-) -
Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions pleaseAsk for you to go through her cupbaord/drawer wherever she keeps her dresses. See what type of dresses she has and compare to the ones she wears around you/on dates with you. Buy one similar.(Original post by rubberdam123)

take it from me, i obsesssssss over clothes and that dress is sososo not worth that much. if you're gonna get her one at least ask her mates what dresses she likes etccccc and proper stands out.. not just a little summer dress which looks like it should be a tenner from primark

Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
Buy her a voucher instead, that way she can choose what she wants. I always find it quite awkward when I'm given clothes I don't like, because I don't want to hurt the other person's feelings!
It also depends on her body shape whether she will suit it or not, or if the colour will suit her skin tone etc.
Plus I wouldn't pay £48 for that dress, you could get something so much nicer! -
Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
Haven't read the thread, sorry if it's already been mentioned.
Why not just take her shopping to get a dress? That way, you get to spend time together, she'll probably be grateful for you being considerate and showing you care, and she'll get something that she likes herself. Just make sure she's not ridiculous when it comes to how much you'll be paying

Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
I think the dress is really nice, and if you think she'll like it, get it! There is such a thing as returns policy if she doesn't like it, for all the people absolutely hyperventilating at the thought of a boy choosing his girlfriend a dress, and you can go shopping for something together if it isn't to her taste.

Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
My advice

- Go with one of her friends and she'll help you pick something.
- Buying online can be tricky, as you can't see how the clothes hang and the quality of the material.
- What's her body shape like? That will help you pick a flattering dress - is she heavy on top, athletic, hourglass etc. Also, do you know what size she is?
Quite a lot of people are either recommending a gift card, or letting her pick a dress and you paying. I'd say to take her shopping, pick out a few dresses you like, get her to try them on then pick...you'll be able to tell if she likes them or not...or you could just ask her

Re: Buying my girlfriend a dress for her birthday. opinions please
Personally OP, I don't like the dress you first linked. It doesn't look flattering even on the model. It's quite risky buying a girl a dress tbh, but saying that my bf bought me a dress and a pair of shoes for my birthday and I love them both! Just have a look through her wardrobe, and see if she has dresses of a particular shape/style and go from there.
Mate, did you actually go to school?(Original post by FailedEverything)
48 quid for a girl? are you the bitch or the butch? the max i spent on my gf is a tenner.. mate don't do it it's not worth it unless your engaged to her.. once you buy your girl expensive ****, they'd expect bigger and better the next time.. been there done that don't do it! just take her out!!! have a picnik in the sun in the park...
the 3 losers who negged me, are too loved up on their gf/bf, and spend no other time apart from each other, then one day they'l realise what a waste of time they were when their parent cheats on them.. just you wait idiots#
Keep the neg reps coming, like it means anything... just cause you can't face it's the truth
24 neg reps! keep them coming, don't want to upset you're partner do we now
LOLOLOL? i got more neg reps then people who actually commented on this page? DA FAQQQ
EDIT: I take back what I said:
