History applicants 2013
University course discussion for history.

I'm starting my degree at Glasgow in September, the other 4 I applied to were Edinburgh (rejected), Manchester (offered a place for which I'm really proud of due to it being one of the hardest course to get on in the uni) Durham (rejected) and York (insurance). My first choice would have been Edinburgh. Where are you thinking of applying?

Birmingham has History, Ancient History and archaeology in one course and is close to home. Exeter has a great study abroad programme. Keele is a beautiful uni, in the middle of nowhere, Kent is a lovely uni with 2 of the 3 subjects I like in 1 course. Manchester has lower grade boundaries and has 2 of the 3 subjects.(Original post by Shomberlon)
Is there any reasons for those choices?

Re: History applicants 2013
I'm hoping to apply, but unsure where yet.
It really depends on Higher results (hopefully AAAAB, maybe AAABB at the very worse), as a Scottish student, I'm thinking more of applying down South.
Thinking if I get really good grades then I'll have a stab at applying to LSE, but really need to be very good (5A's according to the UCAS course search plus another 3 at Advanced, the highest level of education we can get in secondary schools in Scotland) to have any chance at all. But I reckon I'll definitely be able to apply to Kings. Just deciding on other choices now!
Anyone else thinking of applying to Kings? -
I would consider Glasgow as one, I know it's a four year course but the history department is second to none, you should check it out. Also with the with Scottish degrees in the first two years you pick up other subjects so you get a real variety and it also give you a chance to switch if you're not enjoying the subject as much(Original post by KMLeeson)

Re: History applicants 2013
Currently my list (which needs to be cut down!) includes Oxford, Durham, York, Warwick, Exeter and Newcastle. Of those, I'm almost definite about Oxford, Durham and Exeter.
I really want to do a year abroad in America though- so if anyone has any information about that it'd be much appreciated

York has a really good overseas relationship with many US uni's have a hunt around there website. UCLA, UCB, UCSD and UPENN are ones I can remember off of the top of my head, some good ones in Canada as well I'd that interests you.(Original post by cesca42)

Re: History applicants 2013I want to do the same and the only uni I found with a Study Abroad program was Exeter. If you find any others could you please let me know?(Original post by cesca42)

Ok, thanks again(Original post by Shomberlon)
The ones I can think of off the top of my head are York, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. They are also excellent uni's for history.
