PhD in Marketing, how to choose university
    Hi everyone,

I've been accepted at Durham University and Bradford University to study a PhD in Marketing at their business schools. What I'm confused about is which ranking do I follow? There are so many lists, should I just go by the RAE which is the research related table or the general tables for the university or the business schools of each university?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

    N.R.

    Hello,

    Congratulations on your offers!
Durham uni has got a higher ranking and better brand name (more well-known). Yes, RAE and specific business schools rankings should be considered first.

i wouldn't base your decision solely, if at all, on the ranking of the university. you need to think of several things:

    1. who would your supervisor be?
Do they have expertise in your area, do you like their work? are they a well-known name in your field? If they are the leading expert int he world, it doesn't matter what university they are from...

    2. What are the facilities like?
Is the library decent? What the PhD student facilities like (do you get a desk, a laptop, etc etc)?

    3. Where do you want to live for 3 years?

    4. Have you got funding at either?
