Re: Media Studies OCR G325 15th June!
Remember for Question 1a TWO of the FIVE areas will come up. Don't let that discourage you, though. Lets say digital technology did come up alongside creativity. You would be expected to talk about how you creatively used your software/hardware devices. So you could talk a lot about post-production, too, and how you perhaps used interesting transitions to convey a specific mood or setting within Final Cut.
For Media Language, you would need to talk about semiotics, Stuart Hall's encoding and decoding and perhaps the "Male Gaze" theory. Essentially, everything you can talk about for Media Language is depicted throughout the other areas. Also, teachers wouldn't recommend this, but if, for example, you wanted to talk about "Male Gaze" but nothing in your projects had anything relating to seductiveness of a female or anything, then lie! Think of of HOW the theory can be related and give an example at the top of your head if you have to! Hope that helped.

Re: Media Studies OCR G325 15th June!"As you saw in yesterday's post, these are the previous questions which came up for this part of the exam:(Original post by y-y)
thanks! it did help, but, are you sure in question 1a 2 out of 5 will come up?
Describe how you developed research and planning skills for media production and evaluate how these skills contributed to creative decision making. Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these skills developed over time.
Describe the ways in which your production work was informed by research into real media texts and how your ability to use such research for production developed over time.
Describe how you developed your skills in the use of digital technology for media production and evaluate how these skills contributed to your creative decision making. Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these skills developed over time.
there are five possible areas which can come up
Digital technology
Research and Planning
Conventions of Real Media
Post-Production
Creativity.
If you look through those questions above, you will see that they all contain at least two of the five- creativity is mentioned (as 'creative decision making') in two of them alongside the main area (digital technology on one, research and planning skills in the other). In the third of those past questions , research is combined with conventions of real media. So as you can see, the question is likely to mix and match the five, so you HAVE to be able to think on your feet and answer the question that is there."

Re: Media Studies OCR G325 15th June!I'll be answering Media In The Online Age for section 2 so I'm not sure about the other areas.(Original post by porcalin123)
What would you put for Genre and Narrative?
Also, how do you ansswer Section B Media and collective identity?
As for Narrative, you'd talk about Propp's theory about 8 traditional characters, Todrov's theory about the equilibrium and then perhaps Cameron's theory.
For genre you'd mainly talk about iconography etc, remember to include mise-en-scene in each area. -
Re: Media Studies OCR G325 15th June!could you explain genre in more detail please. i really don't understand this area.(Original post by R3cognize)

you have to talk about two mediums .. like one can be a tv programme and one can be a film. and then you have to talk about whatever the question is asking you.. most likely will be about how identity is portrayed over the years.. remember to always talk about stereotypes and talk mostly about your contempery case study. and then relate your point to a theorist and state if ur point adheres or subverts the theorist and why (for or against) . hope that helps.
any tips on section A ? (media language) ? -
Re: Media Studies OCR G325 15th June!I was told to do working class. Instead of having to talk about a load of classes, gender, ethnicity etc?(Original post by stuck18)
