Put me out of misery (poetry exam GCSE)
I am terrified about result for English Literature. Can you put me out of my misery? The question (for Unit 2 - Poetry) was: Compare how the poet of Quickdraw and a poem of your choice present feelings towards another person?

I matched the poem with Nettles and wrote:

Quickdraw and Nettles both have combat-related language

Talked BRIEFLY about metaphors for guns

Scannell repeats the words "My son" and the start and end - perhaps to show ownership

Quickdraw references High Noon and perhaps the poet feels alone against a gang of rogues like in the film

Repetition of the words "...and this..." in Q suggests the argument is ongoing or maybe fading out

N and Q both use enjambment

Nettles uses it to tell a story

Q uses it to show breathlessnes and perhaps convey messiness of an argument

Q also has three irregular stanza shapes but returns to normal at the end - perhaps to show argument has resolved

Nettles has 16 lines - a sonnet has 14 lines - maybe Scannell has done this to say his son is unique like this new unique sonnet form...

Readers feelings: empathy with Duffy (Poet of Q) because her ex is being mean to her

Parents empathy with Scannell - seeing child hurt

Scannell's making the point: why protect kids now, they'll grow up and get hurt by more hurtful things. I said this was apt as his son died in a motorcycle accident and that perhaps that is the son in the poem

I gave evidence, and gave more than two interpretations for the majority of points. Also linked poems - showing I was comparing them. Think I may of not compared a couple of times :P but did on the whole

However I didn't relate to the question much:/

    What grade would I get?

I know you can't really tell - but I am worried I may of failed it :/

    HELP!!!!!!

In fairness, I think you've done more analysis than I did for my AS exam, and I'm aiming for an A grade :/....

Hey - calm down! I didn't do that cluster of poems, so I can't help you there, but seriously, relax! There's nothing you can do now, and from what you've put sounds intelligent - and I remember you from a different thread, and you don't appear to be an idiot I'm sure you've done great, but worrying about it won't improve your grade anyway. Concentrate on your othe exams, and then have a nice summer not thinking about poems, because frankly, they're boring

Good luck for the results, but I'm sure you don't need it!

Your world will not end if you don't get a B, it won't even end if you get a U I can see why you're worried, but come results day I'm sure you won't even rememver why you were worrying.

For my exam, it's a combination of the poetry exam, an exam on texts (Inspector Calls and Of Mice and Men for me) and a piece of controlled assessment (Are Macbeth and Frankenstein tragic heroes?) which is 25%. The grade boundries change yearly, so estimating marks is quite difficult. Saying that, last year when I did Poetry (resit this year ) a C was 16 marks!! D:

I got an A* (37/40) on my Macbeth/Animal Farm Conflict C/W. The Crucible question was horrible but OMAM was easier. Poetry SA (the one in my OP) I am unsure about - same with unseen :P

It's pretty hard to tell what grade you've got. One thing I will say is: you've written it, now forget it. There's nothing like thinking about your work. It can mess you up! I recently did my degree in English and I'm getting my marks soon.

    Think positive!

To be honest it doesn't matter if you really related it back to the question just as long as you used comparative words between the two poems then you should be fine. And by the looks of it you write enough information and hit every single objective so I would be surprised if you didn't get a high mark.
I did the same question though but linked it to Sister Maude and I put pretty much the same information as you did so that has given me some reassurance that I might have got something right!!
