Re: how do i know if i depressed? You're usually depressed for a reason to start with.. do you feel like you have a reason to be depressed? any thing you're lacking in life? That's where you start(Original post by Anonymous)

Re: how do i know if i depressed? Not really. You're usually sad or unhappy for a reason or because you're lacking something important, but you can suffer from depression with no background cause. I have a pretty good, well paying job, a great girlfriend, good friends and no traumatic past. I still suffer from depression.(Original post by Saleha)

Re: how do i know if i depressed?
I think stand out symptoms are really thinking about death all the time/ not wanting to be alive/ wanting to commit suicide or a combination of a lot of the other symptoms because there's a difference between feeling depressed and being depressed. Feeling depressed will past and you will feel better whereas being depressed will make you feel sad, etc and you just wont feel good about life, it will stop you from doing things or even wanting to do things and thats probably when you have a problem and should go see a gp or someone who can help you. You can be aware that you are depressed but you will most likely feel hopeless and like there's nothing you can do about it but you can x

Re: how do i know if i depressed?
When nothing can cheer you up, when you don't enjoy anything any more, that's when I know I'm depressed. You can laugh and smile on the outside, but somehow it just doesn't translate to your insides. When you think about everything positively but still the negative seeps through, and you don't know how you're ever going to stop feeling like that. If you've had to ask yourself if you're depressed every day for a couple of weeks / months, you probably are, and are just in denial. It is real, and don't let people tell you it's not.

Re: how do i know if i depressed?
For me it was no self-esteem, no motivation to do anything (I didn't get out of bed some days apart from going to the toilet), not enjoying things you used to and a feeling of sadness that you can't shake off no matter what you do.
My depression seems to come in bouts. I first got diagnosed when I was 14, due to bullying at school. I was under a counsellor who didn't help me, she just used to say 'go back to school and you'll get over it'. I then got diagnosed with something call 'school phobia' which sounds like a glorified term for lazy-itus but it's a recognised phobia. I recovered from my first bout of depression but I've always feel rubbish about myself since then, but just sort of accepted it.
It then reared it's ugly head in December but I didn't go to doctor's whilst February. I had to cope with the stressed of Xmas feeling worthless, no self-esteem and hating everything. I had college to contend with without telling anyone how I was feeling. I used to come home, at the end of college, feeling shattered and I just used to cry. Honestly, I felt like ending it all but something inside me tells me not to. I just try to focus on my future and that seems to help make the days bearable.
I suggest you go to your GP, take someone with you and just be honest. They won't judge you and you'll feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders. -
