Except physically.
uh, no. They are equal physically. Just different.

Re: Men and women are equalAnd indeed, on average, mentally.(Original post by No Man)
Except physically.
On average. -
Re: Men and women are equalWhy do women lack men's testosterone levels?(Original post by NB_ide)

Re: Men and women are equalI remember this from somewhere...
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others"
Not that I necessarily disagree. Socially, politically and economically, males and females should definitely be treated equally. However, the average male is physically stronger than the average female (statistically and biologically). Not to say that this means males are better than females, but there are obviously some genetic differences between the two - on average. -
Re: Men and women are equal
I find mind-numbingly pressing the 'equality' button a bit pointless.
Inb4 someone cries sexism, I'm not stating that women are of a lower class to men, or that they deserve fewer rights. I'm stating that understanding the differences between men and women holds the key to striking the appropriate contemporary balance between the sexes and shifting discourse away from perpetually never ending discussion of events that happened more than 60 years ago.
I will point out that despite what many believe, the media isn't helping. Instead of trying to address the horrifically imbalanced relationship that appearance places on female self-value, we have Gok Wan telling the nation that all women need to do to assert their sense of self is "ditch those frumpy dresses and cinch in the waist".
What I'd like to see more of is gender balance. It seems the only way women can assert their sense of equality with men is through their vaginas in a sex-and-the-city-esque daze. Procuring gender balance however, can't just be achieved by focusing solely on women. It needs to come from acknowledging that men who don't aspire to some misaligned Jason Statham-ish caricature aren't any less masculine, and women who choose to study computer science aren't any less feminine.
Those are my two cents anyway

Re: Men and women are equal
I appreciate the sentiment, and I think for all intents and purposes we should be seen as equal because there is so much variation withing genders, and we should all have equal opportunities

However, no - men and women are clearly different. It's hard to tell how much is societal and how much genetic, but even speaking as someone who was something of a tomboy I'd say that boys generally have different ways of thinking and different physical attributes.
Then again, as I said originally, this is across an entire gender. Individuals should simply be judged on their individual merits. -
Re: Men and women are equalNo, because, with the following statement...(Original post by TheDefiniteArticle)
Shall we just affix the title with 'in ethical terms' to get rid of all you damn pedants?
...the OP is clearly in need of a few pedants because he hasn't got a sodding clue how to present a coherent argument. -
Re: Men and women are equalOP's argument is fine, his knowledge of the English language is what's lacking IMO.(Original post by Drewski)

I suppose that that impacts upon the coherency element though...
