Re: A Hard Piece of Evidence for Jesus' Resurrection? If anything, just made me deny Him more. :P(Original post by mmmpie)
That's an argument against religion if ever there was one. -

Re: A Hard Piece of Evidence for Jesus' Resurrection?
@yclicc you're appearing in my "who quoted me" box twice but i can't see any posts from you in the thread. Feel free to send me them via VM/PM if you have replied to me, otherwise this is a very weird glitch indeed. Alternatively if anyone else can see his posts, please quote them and quote me in the same post.
EDIT: Make that three times now. -
Re: A Hard Piece of Evidence for Jesus' Resurrection?Somebody above already complained at the use of the Bible as evidence for the Bible, but it is important to know what the Bible actually says before making an assertion, so here goes:(Original post by Elzie)
I became an atheist when I was around 5 years old because there was no mention of dinosaurs in the Old Testament. Plus whenever I asked my teachers why there was no mention of dinosaurs and pointed out we had more evidence for dinosaurs than the Garden of Eden, I was given lines to write through my lunch.. :C
I was pretty big on dinosaurs, I guess.. Though if there were dinosaurs in religion, man, I would pray like ALL THE TIME.
Notice the Bible doesn't mention the existence of Dinosaurs...or the Giant Squid. But the fact Dinosaurs have now been shown to exist doesn't make the Bible wholly unreliable anymore than saying the existance of Giant Squid disproves the Bible. The existence or non existence is not mentioned in the Bible: It isn't an exhaustive catalogue of the contents of the earth: We have science for that. In fact, in the Middle ages, strange creatures not mentioned in the Bible were invented by Christians and put on mediaeval maps. They clearly didn't see a contradiction there and neither do I.And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
A bigger problem comes from estimating the age of the earth from the Bible and concluding Dinosaurs don't exist can't exist. That's not credible a credible line of reasoning to any thinking person, Christian or otherwise (I was quite into Dinosaurs also in primary school btw!)
Whilst there are plenty of arguments against the Bible around, hopefully there is some consensus the Dinsosaur argument isn't the most convincing of these.....?Last edited by yclicc; 29-05-2012 at 20:15. -

That's a bloke pretending to be Raptor Jesus - Blasphemer! -
Re: A Hard Piece of Evidence for Jesus' Resurrection?Yeah...4 times. I tried to post something very long, and being a bit new to TSR tried to post it 3 times when it didn't appear. I'm assuming moderation was delayed because it was so long, and have now split it into two, the second half of which just appeared. When, and if, the triple posted post appears, I will delete two copies. I would post the first half separately, but haven't copied it to clipboard...(Original post by Gofre)

Thus we see the holy trinity at work. -

Here is what I meant to post...

If you're an atheist, then perhaps you should read the book in that link; in the same way that if you're religious you should read the God Delusion.
I myself am neutral in this argument. But if you idolise Dawkins and Hawking - if you have read the God Delusion from cover to cover, and you automatically dismiss any argument for Christ as bull****, without actually having an open mind and also considering the contrasting literature written by people who are intellectual scholars just as much as Dawkins and Hawking - then that makes you a hypocrite.
For the OP - read contrasting literature and formulate a proper argument, FFS.
I haven't read the Strobel, but Timothy Keller's "The Reason for God" gets good reviews. For a direct alternative/answer to "The God Delusion" Alistair Mcgrath's "The Dawkins Delusion" is apparently good, though again, I haven't read it.(Original post by Gofre)
Strobel is a terrible example to use in presenting good christian literature, he's said some utterly bizarre things and some stuff which has been proven to be outright false. He's not an expert in any field and from the excerpts I've seen from that book it's full of leading questions and misplaced conclusions. -
Re: A Hard Piece of Evidence for Jesus' Resurrection?
These threads are pointless - it's impossible to have a proper discussion about things on this forum really when it comes to things like religion. People either agree or disagree - no one's open to changing there mind for some reason.
I will say this though: People THINK it's a circular argument and it does SOUND like one, but on further inspection you'll see the OP was saying that the Bible said something that CAN and WAS PROVEN and KNOWN at the time, OUTSIDE of the context of the Bible.
is there a tldr version you can give me in the meantime?
