Re: Student Finance Deadline advice
Hi
I need some advice:
should i apply for student finance uk if i can afford not to?
my parents have got the money to pay for uni course and living expenses but some of their colleagues said that once a different gov comes in power they'll prob wave of the debt plus they think because you pay back only a few £100 a year maximum for 30 yrs, it won't really affect me that much. Is any of this true and if so should I apply for student finance or not? -
Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceI'm sure i read that the evidence also has to be in to them before the deadline - i'll just go double check that though.(Original post by dan_oufc)
I'm pretty sure the evidence doesn't have to be in by the 31st, but the original forms should be in by then or it will result in delayed payments to you at the start of the course. -
Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceYes. Chances are you will not pay it all back in the long run. I doubt a change in government will change the university fee system, labour were proposing something similar (I think they were proposing £6k but higher tax payback rates) and lets be honest the chance of lib dems coming into power again are effectively nil.(Original post by JayXVIII)

I don't think a new government can wave the the debt away.
It's made to sound so much worse then it is.
If your parents pay they will probably ended up paying more than if you were to take out a loan. -
Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceI rang them yesterday and they just need the form in by the 31st. Evidence can be sent later.(Original post by JongKey)

Re: Student Finance Deadline advice
I suggest you read this guide readily

You shouldn't think about paying the loan up front simply because the is a great chance you will not pay back the whole loan, most students wont. in terms of numbers say if you borrow £43,500 you would need a starting salary of in excess £45,000 to pay it back in 24 years, after 6 more years it would be written off.
If your still unsure i would recommened saving the money in an bank account that gets more then 3% interest and then consider paying the loan after your degree depending on your job prospects. -
Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceAre the original forms the ones that I (the student) fills out online? i've done my end of the student finance thing but there has been a delay with my parents evidence and stuff. So does my application count as being done because my parents have not yet done what they were supposed to?(Original post by dan_oufc)

Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceIs the form the one that the student is meant to fill out online? or is it another one by hand?(Original post by . . .)
I rang them yesterday and they just need the form in by the 31st. Evidence can be sent later. -
Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceYou can either fill it in by hand on paper or online. I suggest doing it online as it is quicker. [You hit send and it's their in an instant as opposed to a paper copy where you have to send it via post which can sometimes fail](Original post by criminal)

Ask your parents to do it online it will be much quicker. I'm also waiting on my dad to sort his side out, I need to get his finance details so I can fill it in.(Original post by criminal)
seriously!? I've sent off my side of the application but am waiting on my parents to sort out the evidence and am bound to miss the deadline -
Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceIf they have internet access you can ask them to do it online but they will need their income and tax details.(Original post by sparklingstar101)
I've submitted my part of the student finance application, however it says my parents need to fill in their financial details when do they need to do this by? They are on holiday til next monday and I didn't realise the deadline was so close :/ -
Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceI think the important thing is getting all the written/typed information done and sent so they can send you a declaration form. I would not worry about the evidence right now because every application may need different evidence (some not at all if non-income assessed).(Original post by criminal)

Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceDoes it need to be in by the 31st?(Original post by . . .)
If they have internet access you can ask them to do it online but they will need their income and tax details.
Or can I add it on when they get back on monday?

Re: Student Finance Deadline adviceI think it all needs to be in [Except the evidence that can be sent later] by the 31st to guarantee the payment before you start. So if you hand in later there is still a small chance you will get the student loan before you start just no guarantee.(Original post by sparklingstar101)
Does it need to be in by the 31st?

Don't quote me on this ring them up tomorrow on 0141 243 3600 [free phone number] I think lines open at 8.00am.
