Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?
I think it depends on which degree you are planning to do, if it's economics you would be better off picking essay based subject instead of biology and FM if you want to do economics in top 5 unis. Which would be ideal for ib.
However if you wan't sciences badly why don't do a science degree? -
Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?Grammar like that won't get you anywhere.(Original post by goldstander212)
am thinking about going into Ibanking after uni.
thus, i have to probz go to the top unis.
Do you reckon these a-levels are good enough for Ibanking 'standards' ?
1.maths
2.biology
3.economics
4.sociology ( easy apparantly ) or chemistry

Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?
i'd like to do economics at the top 5 unis...
so yeah, i agree.
So should i pick a subject like history, even though i hadn't done a history gcse ; would this really affect me in the long run ?
How about this choice of subjects :
1.maths
2.further maths
3. history
4. econ -
Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?I think it's great, because i am doing it myself(Original post by goldstander212)

I don't think it matters that you haven't done history gcse, because it is in no way similar to the a-level history (i don't think history gcse helped me in any way), in a-level you have to use completely different technique and approach in my opinion. If you don't feel too confident about history something like RS is worth taking a look at.
That combination is considered to be near ideal for economics nowadays i reckon. Other people do physics instead of essay based subject, but uniercities are tired people having same physics economics maths as their main subjects, i think something like history will make you stand out. -
Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?That is probably the ideal combination of subjects for an economics degree. Some people I know who have got offers for Econ at Cambridge opted for English Lit instead of Econ as you don't really need Econ at A level to study it at uni, but it probably makes it easier for you to do Economics A level so you don't have to learn basic economic theories in your spare time.(Original post by goldstander212)

Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?
cheers for the help guys xD
and am not really the most mathematically gifted person, so would further maths be a big burden studying ?
Is it possible to get intto oxbridge and lse without further maths, but replacing it with a respectable subject such as a science ? -
Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?
Only do Further Maths if you really have a talent at Maths, otherwise you will flop
I wouldn't do History as you didn't do it for GCSE. Also don't bother studying Sociology. Look at this list below and choose from A1 and A2;

Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?if you're aiming for economics, definitely maths, like somebody said further maths is also needed for top universities.(Original post by goldstander212)

You asked whether you should take History.
You could take Economics, maths and further, and then chemistry if you wanted. That would be fine. You could take history instead of chem, fine. Don't think that you're restricted to essay based subjects with a subject like Economics. What would you enjoy, and enjoy enough to get As in? Because you'll need straight As for top 5 universities (you should be aiming for A* and the rest As, not easy), for a course as competitive as Economics. Everyone who wants to do investment banking applies to the top 5 to do economics, and because of all the media hyping over how much these people earn, every kid wants a bite out of the cherry lol.
good luck anyway -
Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?Have you looked at any of the joint courses? Just thinking that with you choosing RS you may really enjoy economics and philosophy ?(Original post by goldstander212)
I do enjoy maths, but am not really sure about further maths ; checked up the LSE website and they say that its fine if you drop it after AS
And my idea options, which i enjoy would be:
Maths
economics
History
RS -
Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?
Naaah, i'd like economics on its on for the time being.
But. only reason why i chose RE is i know how to chat a lot of **** and same for history :P
And guys, my sixth forms bugging me to make up my mind :L
So on a final note... am going to pick:
1)maths
2)economics
3)RE
4)Biology Or history :'(
IS history enjoyable, and fairly easy - if you actually study ? -
Re: These A-levels good enough for Ibanking ?I know what you mean. TBH I can't see choosing biology instead of history weakening your application at all.(Original post by goldstander212)

I'm doing history at the moment at it really is a great A level. I wouldn't call it easy though - thats why its so respected by uni's. If you learn the content though, it's pretty easy to apply to any type of exam question.
