    PhD Studentships UWS
    Hi all,
I created this thread to talk with other people that have applied to the University of the West of Scotland for PhD studentships. I thought is good for us to share views and thoughts. I have applied to social sciences and while they said that interviews would be held between the 2st of May and 8th of June, it was only last week that I got an email that all of my documents had been uploaded to my application, so I guess they should be late...Do you have any news? Where did you apply? What do you think of the University? Any prior experiences?

    Re: PhD Studentships UWS
I am in the middle of a PhD at UWS, and to be honest my supervisor is awful, I never see them, they don't reply to my emails, and take minimum of over two months to get feedback. They basically do not care about any of my work or my future career path. I am not saying that all supervisors at UWS are like this, in fact I know a lot that are not, but mine is dreadful, really put me of my research field as a career, and I feel like quitting.

Like I have said I cannot speak about all supervisors at UWS just my experiences, no one that can do anything listens to me when I complain, they always take my supervisors side, so the university is poor in that way, supervisors are basically untouchable. I am my supervisors fifth student, from the three before me one dropped out, one works as a waitress, and one has been unemployed for two years after they graduated. it really says it all about my prospects. The scary thing is my supervisor has been given another opportunity to supervise a PhD student for 2013/2014, god help them.

As long as UWS allows substandard supervisors like mine to continue in jobs that they are clearly unqualified to do they will always be a substandard university in my opinion.
