So, to simplify that a bit, after youve got your common denominator, you can simply eliminate the fractions on both sides, leaving: (3x-2)(x-8)=(x+6)(1-2x)(Original post by ThirdSnowLeopard)
Could anyone help me with this?
Meant to be a fraction, but since I can't type it like that...
Solve: (3x-2)/(1-2x) = (x+6)/(x-8)
I know the answers, but I don't know how to solve it. I've tried a few times with sums of the same type and keep making mistakes along the way.
Also, does anyone know how to do this?
Use the compound interest formula to find interest rate p.a if £8000 has a future value of £10724. -
Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam Discussion
Hi, hope you guys can answer this
I am really freaked out about Edexcel and UMS, because other boards such as AQA & OCR always show differnet grade boundaries, but Edexcel's seems to always be fixed
Is this true?
Does this mean that 64/80 in the Maths Exam is always an A no matter how easy or hard it was?????? An does this mena that it is always 128 UMS?????
Will the raw marks always be half the number of UMS?
Please help -

OCR, 45 UMS out of 50 is always an A* for Science. To get your UMS, your raw mark is altered with the difficulty taken into account...
I don't think Edexcel's can be fixed, purely because they have to give a certain proportion of A*s, As, Bs, Cs and so on...
I don't think the raw marks will always be half the number of UMS.
It could be that they're super, super good at guessing how hard to make it, so it's always really close... but then I have friends who've gotten an odd UMS number- so they can't simply double it, as you don't get 'half' marks!
I believe they alter the raw mark to give the UMS taking into account the difficulty, but they tend to be good at setting the correct difficulty, so the boundaries rarely vary hugely...
I hope that helps- just what my instinct/logic would tell me- I may be wrong! -

Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam DiscussionEdexcel does vary a little for maths in its grade boundaries I've noticed, but the A* usually stays around 90%(Original post by A193)

I don't think it would :/ correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't 75/80 equal 150 UMS?(Original post by ChrisThreadgold)
Hey was just wondering, my teacher has told me I need 157 out of the 160 to get the A* I'd like, say if i were to get 75/80 would the UMS Points still be high enough to get me that?

I thought an A* was fixed at 144 UMS? So 72/80?(Original post by A193)
