Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam Discussion
I'm seriously stressing right now.
I got A* on the first two units and I'm on 220 UMS
My teacher say for an A* you need 360 UMS so that means I need around 70 marks (roughly 140 ums) for an A* or 50 marks for an A
However in practises I've been averaging around 52 and in my last practise I got 48 (which wouldn't even get me an A. It's really suck to have got two A*'s then come out with a B. -
Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam DiscussionYeah in the sciences the cut off mark for 100 UMS is sometimes 33! But I think in Edexcel maths they have fixed grade boundaries? Like 72/80 for an A*, which is always 144? This is just what I've found, but yeah, my teacher has said previously that they shift slightly(Original post by ChrisThreadgold)
Yes I know what you mean but sometimes, say in science, you may get 100UMS but not get full marks?
But I personally don't think that 75/80 would equal 157 UMS, do you reckon it could?

Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam DiscussionNo I doubt it haha, I reckon 78 would push it up to 160 but nothing less. Are you sitting this exam too? If so what is it you need to get whatever grade you are hoping to achieve?(Original post by kashagupta)

Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam DiscussionYes you would be able to achieve that if you put the work in. Thats roughly 56 out of 80(Original post by Herschel)
My current grades are: unit 1: 85-b
Unit 2: 77-c
so I need 118 ums for a B overall and i want to do maths for a-level
could I do it?

Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam DiscussionYeah, that sounds reasonable(Original post by ChrisThreadgold)

Anddd I need 138 UMS, so that'd be about 69 raw marks? What about you?

Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam DiscussionI have th same problem as yours, but you are much luckier. I am at 200 UMS, i need 60 marks out of 80 to get my A, but this exam is much harder. I need an A even though my target grade is A*. LOL(Original post by Kayannk)

Re: GCSE Edexcel Maths Unit 3 19/06/2012 Exam DiscussionYou should remember that ums is your friend, the a* mark might be considerably lower than you think, fingers crossed anyway.(Original post by Kayannk)
