Childhood Studies Transfer To Primary Education.
    Hi guys,
I was offered 4/5 interviews for Primary Education, unfortunatley I will not meet the entry requirements for this course as I do not have the 10 days experience or a GCSE in Science.
I am now thinking of studying Childhood Studies for a year at university because I do not want to take the year out and do nothing. I then wanted to maybe apply via UCAS or ask for a transfer onto the Primary Education course for September 2012.

Has anyone done this before? Transferred from childhood studies or any other course to Primary Education?

Hi there! I'm going into my second year of doing BA Childhood Studies at Bangor! I really wanted to go into Primary Education because its all I have ever thought about but then when I got rejected from the uni's (probably because I wasn't prepared enough) I got offered to do this degree instead. It is such a good course and it widens the career gap. On my course I can get an automatic interview onto the PGCE course if I meet the requirements. So that's one choice, a friend of mine did sociology and hated it so after her first year and changed to Primary Education with an interview and was accepted at the same Uni.

Hey sorry to hear you didn't get through, I don't know how the transfer would work as I've not done it, but it's unlikely that you'd be given a place on a primary course with QTS without GCSE science as it is a basic requirement for teaching. Might be worth looking into resitting it?

My friend looked at doing the PGCE after doing a law degree and she hasn't got a C in GCSE science and she wasn't even given an interview.

I have a friend who does it too, she also says it widens the careers you can go into therefore your not limited to just teaching in a primary school.
I guess the main reason I do not want to take a year out is because I will be 21 and if next year I don't get into primary education again I will have wasted 2 years.
I was looking at BCU for childhood studies but they do not offer an automatic interview or anything of the sort for a PGCE.
I had got interviews but as I don't have my GCSE science or the full 10 days experience I thought the spot would be better of given to someone who met the requirements.
Yeah I was going to ask for a transfer for 2013 somewhere around november/december of this year after I had started the childhood studies course.

    Hi,
Yeah I thought if I did childhood studies this year I could also retake my Science GCSE maybe through an evening class?
Then apply this november/december for Primary Education and hopefully if I get a place transfer onto that course in September 2013.
Therefore I should meet the requirements.
I know it sucks that I got offered interviews and was so close to getting a place but didn't get my science gcse :/

Yeah that sounds like a good plan!

It's awful really, when you're sitting your GCSEs you really don't realise just how much they can change your career path until it comes and bites you on the backside!

It's understandable not wanting to waste 2 years and stuff! I'd defo talk with the department though to see what your options are. I had to go on placement this year so that might help into getting your 10 days if placement was available to you. I think getting your GCSE will defo help your application into transferring! I wouldn't worry too much on your age (I'm 20) but there is a lot of mature students.. well in my course there is anyway!
Sorry couldn't be of anymore help.
