Re: Racist colleague, reported himCos we're all people. I treat pretty much every animal with dignity and fairness too. Got an issue with that?(Original post by NB_ide)
But if they're different then why should they be treated "equally"? That doesn't even make sense. Luckily they are THE SAME so can be treated as such!! !
We're all people, no matter what race, but you have to recognise we're all different surely? Black people can stay out in the sun longer than white people before being sunburnt. Does this mean we should treat them differently? I think not.
Calling troll on this one. -
Re: Racist colleague, reported him
If anything, he's self-hating but justifying it with evidence that Europeans colonised abroad and spawned the global market as a result. We wouldn't be trading with anyone like China if we hadn't set sail for the 'new world' in the 17th century. I didn't see Africans innovate. Arabs didn't expand or colonise beyond Africa, adjacent to their natural environment. Even the Japanese and Chinese did **** all in terms of expanding. It could've been that the Europeans came up with the question of 'what's out there' before they did but I think to an extent it should be considered as legitimate evidence that Europeans were superior/dominant but it could've been lucky that we set sail first. Arabs and Vikings had contact almost a thousand years before the Europeans expanded. Perhaps it was just us that did it properly.

Re: Racist colleague, reported him
It was in a way racist, even if it was against his own race. But I think reporting him was a bit of a stretch. It's refreshing to see people be offended at racism even when it's not their own race, but I don't think he did enough to be fired.
On a side note, I find it interesting the amount of people who think what the Saudi Arabian said is not racist. There was a case in Canada where a professor published a report saying that people of African descent have smaller brains and are therefore less intelligent. It caused outrage. It's really no different from this man's claim. To the people who are saying this is not racism, would you have the same stance in the case I just mentioned? -
Re: Racist colleague, reported himYou're either a troll, or a loser(Original post by NB_ide)
I work for a large employer and there are lots of people I only meet occasionally. One was a nice chap from Saudi Arabia and he was eager to share stories of how his country has changed since Western influences have arrived. That's fine, but then he started talking about why Northern Europeans dominated (and dominate) the world and advanced technologically while other populations (such as his own) remained at a near standstill.
He said that he thinks "we" have better brains and are inherently adjusted towards conquest and innovation, while his own people, he thinks, are slightly less intelligent and lack the motivation we have.
I ended the conversation there and went immediately to speak to someone higher up. They were busy but I arranged a meeting for tomorrow and I'm going to explain what he said and that they have a racist working in their organisation.
Should he be fired? I think it's disgusting what he said, especially as he's supposed to be a scientist and scientists should know that there are no biological differences between groups of people who evolved in relative isolation from each other and have completely different histories.
I feel uncomfortable working with him now.

Re: Racist colleague, reported himRace Surrealist? Moron.(Original post by NB_ide)
racist to acknowledge and respect any difference between geographically distinct populations. -
Re: Racist colleague, reported himFor real? Read a history book. Modern Arabia may be in a standstill, but the Arabian Peninsula was a center for thought and development driven by Islamic thought while Europe was going through "the Dark Ages". Modern scientists, mathematicians, and economists owe a significant amount of progress to scientists and thinkers in Baghdad at that time period. Hardly 1400 years of standstill.

Re: Racist colleague, reported him
Shame on most of you for not realising he is trolling...
The "he's supposed to be a scientist and scientists should know that there are no biological differences between groups of people who evolved in relative isolation from each other and have completely different histories" should have given it away if nothing else did.
This is exactly the opposite of what a scientist would believe, as it stands against the entire idea of the evolution of species...
Sometimes TSR, I think you are too easy, too many people ready to throw out a bunch of rubbish in order to get pos rep
eg. Society can be unfair to some people or, racism is bad, or my personal favourite, students shouldn't have to pay for anything.Last edited by Huskaris; 30-05-2012 at 00:03. -
Re: Racist colleague, reported him
Its like a Pakistani calling himself a P.a.k.i
A black rapper saying the word n****r
Its really not racist, and you sir, are an idiot.
Also, all he his doing is generalising very vaguely.
Did you ask him the reason why he thinks his people are less motivated.
Maybe his reason is because loads of people from his country are oil-rich and don't really need to be motivated.
Maybe his reason was because of 'limits' that are in place in such a country, being under Muslim governance.
So go back to the drawing board and find another way to get your head up management's ********. -
Re: Racist colleague, reported himAgree with some of the things you have said but I think it's more likely ignorance than anything racist tbh. I do agree that it's quite offensive however in the unlikely event that the OP isn't troll I'll give him kudos for being annoyed at the misguided views of his colleague. Personally though I would try & explain to him why he is wrong instead of reporting him though(Original post by NAB)

Re: Racist colleague, reported himPakistan is a washed up country made from India, it belongs to us! We in India have a corrupt government , so don't think twice~!(Original post by U.Ahmed)
Chinese are so good at Maths.
Pakistani's are not, we are corrupt, and the educational system is flawed meaning more and more people are less motivated to study and end up with a poor quality of life.
**** me, I'm a racist.
Sorry, forgot to add to last post
