Re: English Language AQA ENGB3 11th June 2012 examIt would just be our luck for there to be reading and writing ;(. Social Interaction is so easy, theorists such as Bruner and Vygotsky can be integrated into the argument to boost AO2 and AO3(linked to context).(Original post by imagineit)
Yeah, i thought so! Thank the lordddd for spoken data! -
Like with what to say about them or understanding them?(Original post by Kaylaleigh)
In language change I really struggle with really old texts (like pre 1800), any advice?
I'm often okay with them because I've had to read a lot of literature pre this period.
I think what obscures the meaning the most is the different grammatical structures, so if you know a lot about that...
Also the typography seems to annoy a lot of people, like that long 'f' thing for the 's'.

Re: English Language AQA ENGB3 11th June 2012 examI find them quite easy because you tend to find the same things(Original post by Kaylaleigh)

- long sentences with a lot of punctuation so you can relate that back to there being no systematic system of punctuation but today standardisation has ensured that there is are strict rules also that there is much less punctuation (e.g. subordinate clauses) used today
- the obvious will be Latinate and archaic - basically to make the text more formal and therefore suit the target audience which will always be upper class educated folk (pre 1800 texts)
- usually relate stuff to power in that it will cater to the upper class making them seem more important then they are today. Also gender - basically slagging of women which isn't politically correct today
- usually non standardised capitals found on abstract nouns making them seem much more real and concrete - which wouldn't be grammatically correct today
- discourse structure usually narrative. depends on the text but it is usually again catered to the educated upper class
-dependant on the text may also comment on wrong spellings because of no reference to one spelling (if it is before Johnson's dictionary)
- graphology - font?
there is usually a lot to talk about with those ^^ so just make sure you pick it out and hit all the AOs
hope that helps

Re: English Language B - Unit 3 REVISION THREAD:::...
I find it so difficult to revise for it though, it just doesn't interest me at all and so I have no motivation, wish I didn't take it!
I would love an A in it, kind of need a B for my Uni's definately at least a C but my coursework was rubbish :'(

Re: English Language AQA ENGB3 11th June 2012 examdon't you think reading is easier then the two? :s(Original post by Tom Hardy)

Re: English Language AQA ENGB3 11th June 2012 examI'm focusing on and banking on a Social Interaction essay so I'm learning all the ways in which caregivers can improve and develop ones language acquisition. In terms of advice for gaining AO3 marks for Acquisition, do what my teacher taught me and underling the parts of the actual question which raise ideas from what contextual factors play a role in the data, the same can also be done for language change.(Original post by lumayaa)
I am currently cramming everything in,
any advice/what I should really go over/focus on for both language change and acquisition?
also any essay samples ?
I'm not sure how much I need to write for the essays?
I can write around 6 pages for each because there is a load of time, however my writing can be fairly large, so perhaps 4-5, aim for that. -
Re: English Language AQA ENGB3 11th June 2012 exam
I am dreading this exam! I somehow did really well in January and got an A but because I only got B's last year the only way I can get an A overall is to somehow get an A* in this exam!
In response to the whole 'what will come up in Child Language Acquisition?', there will ALWAYS be a spoken transcript. My school only teaches the spoken language acquisition and doesn't look at reading or writing at all so I know this for definite
hope that helps some people!

Re: English Language AQA ENGB3 11th June 2012 exam
Oh my God I cannot believe this exam is tomorrow, it is the first of my exams this year (I only have two
) Never been good at the exam side, much better at coursework but my coursework for this subject is bad and I'd really like a B. But I find it sooooo boring and difficult to revise for, can anyone help?

Re: English Language B - Unit 3 REVISION THREAD:::...
I'm condensing my revision posters today, doing one for reading, writing and speaking, one for social interaction/role of caregiver and one on theories/theorists (for child lang) and for language change just putting change onto 2 big ones
Very nervous but it's my only one this week, my others are the following monday and tuesday
hope we have a nice paper!!

My writing's small but still I generally only write about 3 sides, maybe 3 and a half... Which would equate to more in an exam answer booklet as there are less lines and I get at least 41+ out of 48, but I'm sorta worried after seeing this.(Original post by Tom Hardy)

And everyone else seems to have done so much revision, making me a little nervous as I just don't think there's that much to revise :/

I feel uncomfortable saying this for certain, but yeah I think so. Generally, they seem to have always had one speaking and one reading/writing. There's certainly more emphasis in the course on acquiring spoken language than learning to read and write(Original post by ispymo)
So is it 100% that speaking will come up?
Sometimes I find spoken ones so difficult to get into though... :/

Re: English Language AQA ENGB3 11th June 2012 examThat's relieved me quite a bit, only really know spoken properly find it so much easier to analyse than any others(Original post by HolyFuzazzle)
