Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure Motion
The wording is a little poor i.e. what constitutes an economic collapse, but the principle is something that I agree with (though this may be a little extreme). Should such an event occur, then we must be prepared for this eventuality.

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionThere is talk IRL about a possible cap, will the Government look at it?(Original post by toronto353)

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionThe cap I assume you're talking about is the 10,000s idea from Cameron. This is different. This motion seeks to close our borders completely. As I say, it's a little too extreme for me (reading the motion again and editing my reply), but we must be prepared.(Original post by Morgsie)

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionI am talking that a cap may be established, Thressa May. Like the cap we had back in 2004 when the Eastern lot joined the EU.(Original post by toronto353)

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionIt's an idea that I believe we should look into, but we shouldn't dismiss internetguru's idea out of hand either because it is a cap of sorts (just an extreme one). To not cap migration at all after any collapse of the euro would be poor planning to say the least.(Original post by Morgsie)

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionClose our Borders, ARE YOU MAD. Shutting our borders is extreme.(Original post by toronto353)

I understand there should be plans drawn up including the banks. -
Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionSo will you sit by in this hypothetical situation and let our country be flooded with new people? Our country is not prepared to handle a sudden massive increase in immigration.(Original post by jesusandtequila)
No no no no no no no. -

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionMorgsie, you have to prepare for all eventualities. Did I say I supported closing the borders? No. What I said is that I supported the idea of limits and that internetguru had presented an extreme form of capping migration. We need to be prepared though. Sticking your fingers in your ears and saying 'lalala' won't help the situation. You need to plan and to rule anything out at this moment is to leave yourself a little bit more unprepared.(Original post by Morgsie)

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionCap it at 1?(Original post by Morgsie)
NO WAY, we can put a cap though.
I jest, I am in complete disagreement with this. -
Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionYou're not going to appeal to my vote with that, considering I support open borders. I don't believe that a human should be denied the opportunity to live where they can acquire private property, or denied work where they can find someone who wants their labour, at all.(Original post by internetguru)

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionMorgsie. I'm sure I've mentioned personal attacks before. You don't like it so don't attack others.(Original post by Morgsie)
I hope the Conservatives deselect this Incompetent member

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionThe libertarian idea of open borders can only be maintained when the state only provides protection. With welfare, healthcare and pensions etc all funded by the state open borders are a laughable proposition.(Original post by jesusandtequila)

Extreme situations call for extreme decisions. I am not proposing we permanently close borders under such circumstances a mere temporary measure until everything cools down. -

Re: M94 - Greek collapse border closure MotionI think we need to be aware of economic 'refugees' coming to Britain in case of Greece having total economic collapse and prepare for it - we can't accommodate thousands of new migrants in one go, but if we plan for them we can accept and integrate anyone who may move to Britain for economic reasons. I don't agree with a total border closure though.
