Probably a country where the treatment of women is extremely objectionable.

    Mines is England.
I know it's got its problems. But seriously? You'd rather live in a war zone, an oppressive dictatorship, somewhere with no public health system/frequent epidemics etc etc?

Mine would have be to somewhere like North Korea or Afghanistan.

Ah. Well, I don't personally know any expats here, but I know the opinion people have of most of them: Stuck up 'wazungu'. Which is not always right. But still, there are some things that aren't going to change, and unfortunately people still remember the colonial times, so...

And on the cold: How cold is cold? I know I once commented to an American friend that it was so amazingly cold... It turned out that 25C isn't cold! Who knew?
I think that's mostly about tourists, isn't it? The expats I knew (very few actually) have had a quite friendly relationship with most locals, but whilst having several advantages being white in an African country is not always easy - just having to bargain about everything because locals raise their prices for you. Ghanaian approaches a street vendor, pays 1 GHs for something and leaves. I approach a street vendor, he demands 5 GHs and I have to spend several minutes making clear that I'm not a silly tourist he can easily rip off

Furthermore, if one calls someone to speak to him but he ignores you or just waves and smiles and proceeds anyway, one would usually consider that stuck-up. Yet, as an expat at a place where there are not many tourists people are always totally excited and want to talk to the mzungu/obruni. My way to the school where I taught (worked for the Red Cross in Ghana for a year) was about 4 km, if I would've had a chat with everyone who wanted to talk to me I would not have arrived at the school by noon So the fact that I ignored all the "Obruni, bra, bra!" ("White guy, come, come!") shouts and only smiled doesn't mean I'm stuck up and I suppose that is the same way many white expats in Africa react/have to react

By cold I mean the state when you don't want to shower because ... well, you would feel cold under the cold water. Occurs very rarely, but does occur. In Ghana's mountainous Volta region I lay in bed fully dressed in long trousers, t-shirt and pullover but still froze - maybe because my blanket had been stolen by my female company

    Syria!

England is not that bad. We have a lot of good things like freedom of press, right to education, a democratic government, equal rights etc that other countries could only dream of or are currently at civil war to achieve.

Course we have our problems but there are worse places - far worse.

DPRK, Congo, several south American countries like Panama etc. Falklands doesnt seem to peachy either ... a bit to cold and desolate for my liking..

I am curious why so many people are saying the UK? its cold and wet here but other than that what can you complain about? we have free health care, an out standing quality of life and relatively speaking a low crime rate ... especially compared to some sub-sahran african countries and places like panama.

Same here - I couldn't picture myself living in the Falklands.

    Mines is England.

    Anybody else?
    Are you mentally ill?

Somalia presumably, although Zimbabwe, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bahrein and Yemen must also be in the running.

Strange how many of them turn out to be Islamic countries.
