Re: Will you celebrate the Diamond Jubilee? POLL
Long live the Commonwealth!
The free, independent and republican Commonwealth of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, that is!
In short, no. I don't care about the cost of the monarchy (it wouldn't be much different for a republic as much of the cost is based on security), I don't hate the Windsors (If anything, I feel sorry for them), nor do I care about their lifestyles. I just think that it's about time we had a head of state elected for the people, by the people, from the people. -
Re: Will you celebrate the Diamond Jubilee? POLLBlimey, you lefty types do like to overreact, don't you?(Original post by SciFiBoy)
it's called freedom and democracy, though I am hardly surprised a royalist finds such concepts objectionable...
I refuse to celebrate an institution that represents so many of the most vile aspects of British society, I have every right to join the protest which has every right to take place, if you don't like it, then I suggest you holiday to China or Syria...I hear they like your kind of attitude to protests too...
It was a 'joke'. -
Re: Will you celebrate the Diamond Jubilee? POLLIt's this coming weekend.(Original post by whyumadtho)

i live near the thames so will be watching the pageant! then going to a 50's themed picnic and fair.
i respect the queen, i think it's amazing that she's spent the majority of her life working for the country when she didn't even have a choice, and she was only just older than most of us when she was given the responsibility. i say celebrate!

Re: Will you celebrate the Diamond Jubilee? POLL
I'm having a garden party this weekend with my family but not with the Queen particularly in mind. I think it's nice to have a long weekend and (hopefully) decent weather to get the family together for a BBQ and some drinks. The jubilee is the theme but not really the purpose of the celebration.

Re: Will you celebrate the Diamond Jubilee? POLLYou don't have to celebrate it and I see your point there. But frankly I think any protestors are going to make a bit of an arse out of themselves if there is a huge protest. The Jubilee weekend is a way of bringing families together, against the background of the royal family, but not necessarily just for the sole purpose of celebrating it.(Original post by SciFiBoy)

Relax a bit. Don't celebrate it if you don't want to but you don't have to get uptight about what should be a nice weekend for everyone, royalist or republican. Not everything that you disagree with warrants a huge protest every time something related to it happens. -
Re: Will you celebrate the Diamond Jubilee? POLL
Yes, its nice of the Queen to throw a party to remind us all that we are all beneath her and her inbred family. It is a great time for us to celebrate that we are British and bring families and communities together. As without her royal intervention we mindless zombie drones would not know we are British and that families should come together every so often.
God bless her. -
Re: Will you celebrate the Diamond Jubilee? POLLimho it will be the people waving flags and celebrating making "arses" of themselves, I object vehemently to everything the monarchy stands for, I think people have every right to protest that.(Original post by Rascacielos)

I will "relax" when the things I believe to be morally unjust are no longer around. -
