Hi i recently bought a black suit and was wondering what shirt and tie colour would be good for prom?

its on friday and need to know as soon as possible please!

ATM i'm thinking of going classic and doing normal white shirt black tie

or would something like Light blue (sky) shirt and dark/navy blue tie be good?

I'd consider a grey tie, nothing shiny, steer clear of red and blue as it will make you look like a politician.

At work (Next), purple shirt & tie (usually contasting so a lighter purple shirt) has been the most popular colour recently, although I usually say that goes better with grey suits.

To be honest, I think most colours will look good with black if you get the contrast right, so that blue/navy combo sounds good. Consider maybe a deep red/burgundy? Like this: http://www.next.co.uk/x49468s4

If you do go with a white shirt get a coloured tie just to add a bit of fun to the suit, any colour is good. At the moment our gradient ties are really popular: http://www.next.co.uk/g628142s1 (you can get that one in purple and grey too)

If you're looking for plain ones, Next currently offer 2 for £10 or 3 for £15 in-store. Topman do 2 for £12, or Primark are usually good for plain t-shirts too.

River Island have some nice striped t-shirts for £10, which is a good deal, and ASOS have a good 50% sale on at the moment- the ones with the pocket details are my favourite :smile: http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-T-Shirt-With-Squiggle-Print-Pocket/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2197244&cid=5232&Rf-400=53&sh=0&pge=1&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Green

A grey shirt will wash you out too much and a black tie will look too much like a school uniform or like you are at a funeral. Go for a more pastel colour for the shirt, light blue or lilac sort of colours.

What are the best ways to fold a pocket square? I've got my 6th form prom on Friday and bought one in town today to experiment with.
