20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?
I am 20 years old, I had been studying at college since leaving school and college ended last year, the courses I were enrolled onto are in no way useful to me, I didn't even get certificates.
Anyway I have been out of education for about a year now, I just sit at home most days or wasting fuel by joyriding in my car.
I only have about 6.G.C.S.E. all of which are pretty bad graded.
I don't know what to do with myself, I don't just want to be sat at home everyday doing nothing, I want to be out there doing something with my life that will give me a great caret, money, prospects, a home, within the next couple of years instead of just lazing about all day then ending up on job seekers at the age of 30+ and feeling to old to study/work -
Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?How can I apply to go ot Uni with bad grades though?(Original post by Em_Huong)
Apply for uni or look for a job/internship. -
Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?Look at other options, maybe do a HND or HNC? Could you go back to college and re-do A-Levels?(Original post by I likewinegums)

Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?Do I Need good grades to get into open university and will I need to attend an interview? also what is redbrick? thanks(Original post by apolocreed)
Open uni, then do a masters at a red brick?
I'm not sure what either HND/HNC actually are? also how do I enroll onto an A level program and is it difficult? cheers(Original post by Em_Huong)

Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?I think you may need A Levels for entry into Higher National Diplomas/Higher National Certificates. What were you doing in college then?(Original post by I likewinegums)

Maybe redo 6th form, from what I hear it's not uncommon to have 20 year olds in college classes, then apply to uni. If uni's see how you realised what was wrong in life and tried to sort it out you'll definitely get some entrance brownie points -
Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?
You don`t need any qualifications for the OU. It is first come, first served. They do foundation modules in maths, science and arts. If you do well in these it may be possible to then get into a normal university. Access courses are also helpful.

Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?if he struggled with GCSE's he's not exactly going to cope at uni...Red brick is not a typical uni, there are only 6 in the country, Birmingham, liverpool, leeds. manchester, sheffield and bristol.. they are not easy to get into and will only accept A levels or equivalents(Original post by apolocreed)

thanks for the info
but he still should give a-levels a shot, people start uni well into their 20's -
Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?yes but with 6 gcse's presumably with poor grades indicates stereotypically that he will not do well, by then he'll be at least 22, which if you haven't achieved much in that time, universities are not very forgiving toward, he could try and work really hard but I wouldn't expect him to get higher than 3B's(Original post by apolocreed)

Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?It's either that or what could be a life of benefits...I know which one I'd choose(Original post by pshewitt1)

Re: 20yrs old, currently doing nothing, not sure what to do?
since you like driving, and are probably into cars, y dnt u try for a pro race driver career? or a car journalist? or a mechanic? car salesman?
dont go back into education if you dont think you'll find it interesting, you cant be good at stuff you dont give a **** about, ie if you do it purely for the sake of a career you'll either fail or be miserable
thanks for the info
