I completed my BSc in Physics with Astrophysics in 2009, so am in pretty good stead for it! Was going through the course modules today, bit giddy with excitement! It's pretty much what I've always wanted to do. I've got so many questions, but will have to wait for this visit they've invited me and the other postgrads to at the end of the month.
Erghhh Physics :P I can cope with the Maths, me and Physics do not get on at all lol. Not surprised you're excited, bet you can't wait So you have to wait pretty much 3 weeks? Long time when you have lots of questions :P Any I might be able to help with or are they all course related?

    Meteorology is physics!

Yeah, I'm excited to see what Reading campus is like, as I can barely remember it. I looked around it over 7 years ago when I was applying for unis, thank god I didn't go there though for my bachelors, as they shut their physics department down!

Yeah a lot of stuff about the course, also stuff like, is it worth buying some required textbooks in advance off ebay, or do you get discounted rates from the department?

Also, trying to decide for sure where I'm going to live.

Yeeeah I know it's technically physics lol...but I have no pure physics modules, and it feels more mathsy than physics...I know I'm not making a lot of sense here haha. At least for the undergrads, they don't offer any discounted rates, unless you find previous students that just want to get rid of theirs and are selling them much cheaper. I got all mine from ebay/amazon

Well physics is applied maths, so it's all maths at the end of the day!

Okay thanks, just want to do some reading ahead of time. Maybe I'll wait until my visit and ask then.

Do you know how many people were on the course this year? (no worries if you have no idea hah..just wondered if it was like 5-10 or like 30..)

Hi 5! I almost picked that, but opted for MSc Atmosphere, Ocean & Climate; I imagine we'll share a lot of modules. Where/when you get your undergrad if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry but I actually have no clue lol. There are less than 30 on the undergrad met course, so I would have thought the numbers would be less, but that's just a stab in the dark.

I've been offered MSc Atmosphere, Ocean & Climate too, but i 99% sure i'm going to do the Applied Meteorology. I have just finished my undergrad this year in Galway, Ireland

    What swayed you?

Ah nice! I'm a few years out of mine, so need to brush up my partial differentials and whatnot hah.

Meteorology has always been my first interest, but i only found 3 courses to apply for so i broadened out my applications a bit to atmospheric sciences just incase. maths isn't my strongest subject but it'll be grand sure!

Yeah mine too, and that was my initial choice before applying, but then got led to believe it was in my interests to do the atmosphere, ocean & climate instead. You get the 'chartered meteorologist' qualification doing either.

And I'm sure the maths won't be as bad as some of the stuff I went through with physics!

That's a relief. I would hate to have to sit around entertaining myself. I'd get bored after a short while.

I will be doing the Meteorology and Climate course with a year in Oklahoma. I really hope to fulfill my childhood dream of studying this subject. I am pretty interested in all aspects of this discipline. I have read a lot of books already and, therefore, feel quite enthusiastic. How can I get to know the undergraduates doing this course?

Hello there, I am about to start the 2nd year of that course and might be able to answer some of your questions. The Oklahoma course and the 3 year Met course are the same for the first 2 years, so you will all get to know each other. The best time to find other people in your year should be just after the A-Level results, when I expect this thread will be a little busier. Us 2nd years will also be around to try and answer any queries and get to know everyone.

This looks very good. Is there something like a forum where the weather processes are discussed. I mean - a place where the synopsis is presented, with any specific weather patterns, explanations and etc. It will really appeal to me and I will take part. Glad to meet you. Can you give me your Facebook or skype in the inbox , so that we keep in touch

There are weekly seminars in the department, which anyone can attend if you wanted to expand your interest. On top of the fact that some of your lecturers are experts in their field and are normally very approachable.

This may seem very silly...but who are you? If you are going into your 2nd year, we must know each other lol.
