Ahh tá brón orm nár scríobh mé freagra duit - bhí mé gnóthach le threads eile agus rinne mé dearmad!

mise freisinNá bí cinnte
, ach deanfaidh mé mo phaidreacha

Níl a fhios agam leis an fhírinne a ráTá fhíos agam, ach beidh an craic agam sa tsamhraidh
.. ba bhrea liom teachtaireacht meandaracha a dheanamh ar an idirlíon tríd tsr? an bhfuil sé feideartha? an bhfuil go leor daoine ann?
Tá aithne agam ar mod amhain (Hylean) a bhfuil suim aige le Gaeilge a fhoghlaim, sa ndoigh go mbéidh sé abalta cuidiú linn, b'fhéidir
Tá mé dairireAn bhfuil tú dairire? litríocht eabhraise?
.. agus bhí mé ag feachaint ar do sig? 13.5 A*s? Maith an cailín
.. agus oxford fosta? Is cailín cliste thú
.. Táim ag feachaint ar oxford, ar thug tú cuairt? tá se ar a intinn agam fisic a dheanamh, agus is gá go bhfuil an ollscoil den chead scoth.. (bragging i ngaeilge? ag bragáil?
.. béarlachas..
) taobh amuigh de sin tá me dairire, tá mé ag feachaint ar imperial, agus edinburgh fosta, níl me cinnte ar bith go fóil afach...
Thosaigh mé leis an Eabhrais le spraoí a dhéanamh ach leis an fhírinne a rá faighim é rud beag ró-dheacair agus tá seans ann go téipfidh mé leis
chífidh muid
Thug mé cuairt i Márta an bhliain seo caite. Ar chuir tú isteach don scoil samhraidh, UNIQ?
ar aon chaoi is fiú cuairt a thabhairt mura thug tú cuairt cheana féin
mar is gá coláiste a roghnú. Is ollscoileanna den chead scoth iad Edinburgh agus Imperial ar aon chaoi
Cén cinn eile? an bhfuil suim agat iarratas a dhéanamh do na hollscoileanna sa Phoblacht?

Re: TSR Cumann Cainteoir Gaeilge (TSR Irish Language Society)
Dia daoibh!

Is as an Bhreatain Bheag mé agus ba mhaith liom foghlaim labhairt Gaeilge arís. Tuigim beagán Gaeilge, ach nil Gaeilge maith agam because I never speak it.
Is féidir le mo athair Gaeilge a labhairt agus is léachtóir le gaeilge é san Ollscoil. Labhair mé leis é nuair a bhí mé níos óige ach ta mo chuid Gaeilge go dona anois. :'(
It's really weird because I could hear someone say a sentence in Irish and I'd understand it perfectly, but I'd never have been able to think of the words/grammar to say it myself and I wouldn't be able to spell it. Also I hardly know the words for anything and only know phrases that I heard as a child and aren't useful in many contexts now. e.g. "Stopagai!" "Dhoirt tu do dheoch a diabhailín!", "Na bi ag tarraingt ar an mballa!!".

An mbíonn deis agat labhairt Gaeilge ar bith ag an am i lathair? Is fiú iarracht a dhéanamh le Gaeilge a labhairt le d'athair má tá Gaeilge aige
ach tuigim ón taithí go mbíonn sé deacair in amanna mar ní mhaith le gach duine beith ag gaeilgeoireacht an t-am ar fad
An chainteoir Bhreatnais thú?

Re: TSR Cumann Cainteoir Gaeilge (TSR Irish Language Society)
Ní aontaím leat. That post took me about a million hours to write using a dictionary! D:
Is dócha go bhféadfainn labhairt níos mó Gaeilge ach tá sé deacair - nil enough vocabulary agam.
Sea, is cainteoir Breatnais mé.

bhuel, déan do dhícheall le Gaeilge a labhairt, agus má tá tú ag rith amach as an foclóireacht, tá fáilte romhat cuidiú a iarraidh orainn
Cad é mar a dhéanann an Bhreatnais i gcomparáid leis an Gaeilge?

Excuse the English but i have a good bit of time on my hands over the summer and i'm very interested in learning a bit of Gaelic from complete stratch. Can anyone direct me towards some good books/internet resources for a complete beginner?

Progress in Irish is the standard beginner's textbook and something I used even when I was doing my A level for grammar revision; relatively heavy going but if you are diligent you will make progress fast. I would also recommend Buntus Cainte for spoken Irish, and perhaps getting a phrase book and dictionary. For Grammar I would use the Christian Brothers' Irish Grammar (Graimear Gaeilge na mBaithre Chriostai). The 'Irish Grammar Book' by Nollaig McCongail is more technically accurate but I wouldn't recommend it to a complete beginner as it's a bit difficult to use. I have also found the book Briathra na Gaeilge (Irish Verbs) to be extremely useful.
There isn't an awful lot out there in terms of online resources but I would definitely have a look at the likes of TEG, TG4, Blas, NUI Galway Irish language centre etc. There are also youtube videos with introductions to Irish. There is also an Irish language section on memrise and I'm pretty sure livemocha as well
Irish is a challenging language to self study due to the relative lack of resources and the structure of the language itself (it's very different from other commonly studied European languages) - but it's been done - so if you get stuck or are finding it tough going don't give up or get frustrated, and keep us up to date with your progress

Re: TSR Cumann Cainteoir Gaeilge (TSR Irish Language Society)Ah grand, thanks very much i'll definitely look the books. I'm generally just trying to learn up to a conversational standard for use when i go back home/watching the old TG4 football. My entire family speak it but i was schooled in England so never had the chance! Gladly i'll keep you updated when i have a chance(Original post by medbh4805)

Re: TSR Cumann Cainteoir Gaeilge (TSR Irish Language Society)
I'm thinking of starting to learn it again, I studied Irish until GCSE level and got a B, I found it difficult at the time but I hate learning things in classroom situations. I was terrible at writing in the language, is it possible to increase your knowledge in speaking it without having to write it well?
-
Re: TSR Cumann Cainteoir Gaeilge (TSR Irish Language Society)Definitely, and I imagine there are a lot of people in your situation. A ciorcal comhra (conversation group) would probably be ideal for you - are there any near you?(Original post by toddman10)

If you're in Belfast or Derry you ought to check out what's on in the Culturlann, as they would have lots of events where you can practice speaking Irish

Re: TSR Cumann Cainteoir Gaeilge (TSR Irish Language Society)I live in England for uni at the moment but I'm from rural Derry. Would you advise any of these books on amazon? http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...irish&x=4&y=13(Original post by medbh4805)

Re: TSR Cumann Cainteoir Gaeilge (TSR Irish Language Society)Might be worthwhile looking anyway, as depending on what area of England you're in there may still be something on(Original post by toddman10)

I'm not really sure about any of those particular books as I've never used any of them, but I'd steer clear of Rosetta Stone. The best combination for beginners imo is Buntus Cainte together with Progress in Irish, but for someone who wants to focus on spoken Irish I'm not so sure, and I know this approach doesn't suit everybody
'Learning Irish' looks a bit intense going from the reviews on amazon, but perhaps this might be more suitable http://www.amazon.co.uk/Irish-Beginn...ref=pd_sim_b_1 . That said, I've not used any of those books so I can't really speak from personal experience. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
