    Not attending an exam
See if someone doesn't attend one of their fainal exams, what shows up on their certificate
Does it come up as "No Award" or will it just show the unit passes and have nothing else?

In GCSEs, it shows up on your sheet but there's an X (I think) where your grade would be, which means absent.

    Re: Not attending an exam
I missed a module exam once, I got a results sheet back that said Grade: U on it and it caused my overall A level to be cashed in which came back E due to a unit of 0 UMS. Not good because I was then forced to declare that grade on UCAS because unis would see it anyway.

Is there a reason for not attending?

It depends why you miss the exam! If you miss it because you're ill and get a doctors note (or any other legitimate reason), then you should be able to appeal on your prelim grade and still be graded. Presumably if you just don't show up for no good reason then you will get 'no award' (or something similar) and the unit passes on the certificate as I believe they count as qualifications in their own right.

And also, why is noone capable of checking the forum and seeing Scottish Qualifications (though I think the first reply might have noticed it and post anyway)? It baffles me slightly.

The school would probably put in appeals (as this is the last year of appeals), but if not, you'd just get no award for that subject on your certification.

Sorry, should've said. I missed the exam cause I was ill but failed my prelim, so there isn't any point in putting in an appeal. Just wondered if it would technically show as a fail, or just a no sit

Your units come through but nothing else. Then you just have to wait for your appeal. Appeals where no exam was sat are generally more successful than those where you simply fail the exam

You just fail it, and you're fined. Also, I heard that you can't appeal if you don't sit an exam.

Clearly not if you have a legitimate medical reason...

Well first of all this isn't true. I didn't sit my Standard Grade drama exam last year and handed a doctors note into my school, the SQA take your prelim and they give you that grade (if the prelim is valid and note is legitimate). In which case I got a two.

For you I'm assuming on your certificate it will show you've failed (your prelim grade) if your doctors note was approved.

Sorry, guys, I was directing my answer to not sitting an exam generally (without a medical reason, for example). Certainly it's a different story if there's something important going on.

I think it just comes up as No Award. I almost missed my Spanish one on Friday cause I was ill. No idea how I actually managed to go.

I only know of one person who managed to get an appeal because he was ill - he was taken into hospital with appendicitis the night before the exam.

Exams are the one day you should show up even if all of your limbs are in casts. I spent my modern studies & history exams one year loaded up on painkillers, my ears stuffed full of cotton wool and my head tipped on one side. -.-

I don't think you get fined though for missing it. You get fined for dropping the course after you've already been put in for the exam though... or did. I was fined for dropping Spanish this year and then mid-May I got an email from the finances dept. at college saying they were no longer charging students. Refund went through last week.
