Confirmed: Mitt Romney to take on Obama
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ack-Obama.html

Mitt Romney has been confirmed to stand as the Republican candidate against Barack Obama.

To me it looks like Obama has the next election in the bag as many Americans are dissilusioned with Romney's religion, Mormonism, and his extreme wealth at a time of hardship for the majority of Americans.

It is a great shame that Ron Paul didn't have as much publicity during his campaign, to me he is the epitamy of a great leader, public speaker and listener.

    Opinions and thoughts please!

This is going to be great. Romney is a dick so I will have to support Obama after all, he isn't a bad president. Wanted Ron Paul to win but it is very unlikely now.

Ron Paul is a blithering idiot. I have no idea why a generically left-wing, social-democratic student forum rallies behind this man. It probably has something to do with his stupid isolationist foreign policy.

Anyway, the election should be interesting. I reckon Romney will win, taking about 300 electoral college votes.

I hope that Romney doesn't win. Neither are the best candidates, but Romney is defiantly worse than Obama.

I quite agree with the above poster on Ron Paul, he's so far right, it amazes me how random lefties love him. Half the people have no idea what a libertarian is, they just think because it sounds something like liberal so they should support it.

Team Rom. Obama hasn't fixed America's problems (which is impossible, I know), but my relatives over there said that conditions have worsened since Obama...?

It's funny how the pundits on CNN were worrying about how the effect of Trump's extreme "birther movement" views would harm Romney's campaign.

As if his extreme Mormon views are perfectly fine then.......

I reckon Obama will win. Barring a huge blunder in the run up to the election, Obama has a huge lead in electoral votes due to safe Dem states. Even common swing states like Pennsylvania and Colorado were carried with over 8% in 2008, and polls aren't showing a huge swing in the Romney direction, so Obama is likely to carry them again. Romney isn't a hugely popular guy either, so I doubt there will be many Democrats switching their allegiance from Obama either. With that being said, I think this election will be closer than in 2008. Obama team have already conceded that they've got no chance of carrying Indianna again, or Missouri, which they nearly won last time. It's going to be more defensive, with some losses in swing states, but I reckon it will be Obama again.

This was coming. The polls are close. If Obama is serious about winning he should consider putting HRC on the Ticket. There is a lot of talk from the media about this since January.

I don't think Clinton will take it. She says she's not going to do a second term as secretary of state either. I reckon she's distancing herself from the Obama administration after this election, just in case all goes wrong, so that she can run effectively again in 2016 - even though she says she's not going to.

Besides, Biden isn't a bad V.P, and ditching him will probably make Obama look desperate.

Ron Paul isn't all he's cracked up to be. He's against abortion, for capital punishment, is a big gun nut and doesn't believe in the separation of church and state. Just because he's lenient on weed doesn't make him any better than the rest of the Republicans.

The talk is about switching HRC with Biden. If the Hill is VP, 2016 shoe in. HRC secure the female vote which polls indicate they are backing Romney.

Obama already have a convincing lead over women in the vast majority of polls; dropping Biden would be a sign of desperation for the Democrats, and it would probably cost more votes than it gains. Also, VP probably won't help Clinton in 2016 either - I doubt tying herself in with the Obama administration will help at all. As far as I'm aware, there's no serious discussion involved about replacing Joe with Hilary, and Obama has already asked for Joe to run with him again.

Why are over 80 percent of TSR members thinking Obama will win?

If the election were held today, Mitt Romney would win by a landslide. I have a feeling you Britons are looking at the polls that survey only registered voters, not likely voters. Rasmussen seems to be the only pollster who tests likely voters, and his latest tracking poll has Romney ahead by 48-43.

Making things even worse for Obama is that studies consistently show undecided voters always go for the challenger when incumbents are seeking a second term as president

It doesn't matter if you are looking at Johnson in ’64, Nixon in ’72, Ford in ’76, Carter in ’80, Reagan in ’84, Bush in ’92 and Clinton in ’96. All failed to pick up the undecided vote. The only exception was Bush 43, who was able to get SOME of the undecided voters.

Taking into account how the undecided vote is going to break and also how likely someone is to vote and you are looking at 55-45 Romney victory at least!

This is going to be an absolute massacre for the democrats, maybe an even bigger bloodbath than the 2010 elections. I really see no way this is winnable for Obama.

That's what happened when Reagan wiped his ass with carter in 1980. Romney if the election were held today, Romney will also win by a 10 point lead and it's impossible that a lead of that magnitude isn't going to show up as a huge win in th electoral college.

It all depends on the economy, if it improves Obama will win, if it gets worse Romney will win.

Romney is likely to pick Marco Rubio as his VP candidate. This will appeal to both the Tea Party faction and Latino voters.

Here here. I always imagined Ron Paul to like the honest, liberal-leaning Senator Viddick from the West Wing, until I learned about his views on Abortion and Capital Punishment.

Where is the real-life Vinnick anyway? McCain looked to be him for a while until he shot himself in the foot and agreed to Palin as his running matess...
