Re: How many GCSE's did you take/ are you taking?
I'm a pretty much a/a* student but our school only let you take 11 GCSE's they offered nothing extra for those a the higher end of the grade spectrum which is kind of annoying but tbh I'm glad I can just really focus on those 11 subjects don't know what possesses people to do 15/16 even if you are smart.

Re: How many GCSE's did you take/ are you taking?our school spread our exams out, we had 6 or 7 in year 10, and then one in november, a bunch in january, then i think i had nearly 20 in summer ! pretty hectic, loads of cramming was awful, cant help but think i wouldve gotten better grades over fewer subjects though .(Original post by JordanS94)
high 5, but mine made us also do a Btec and one of those weird ICT OCR qualifications ¬¬ I didn't even bother to revise my exam timetable was hectic

Re: How many GCSE's did you take/ are you taking?
I took 10 in year 11.
Spoiler:Show
+ an FMSQ in Add Maths
+ BTEC in Art & Design (which will never be of any use... ever
)
+ an AS in Fine Art
+ an AS in French
I think it would probably have been more beneficial to just take 11 GCSEs/10 and do very well in them - year 11 was more stressful than sixthform for me because of the workload; ASs are a step up.
To people who are getting daunted by some of the (admittedly very impressive!) numbers on here;
They are just numbers and by virtue... mean very little; you're not disadvantaged in any way by doing less than the required amount. Remember that 9A* is comparable to 11/12/13A* in terms of %A*. In the same way that 6A* and 3As is comparable (and in terms of percentage... actually better) to 8A* and 6As. I'd only advise doing more than 10/11/your school norm if you enjoy the subjects and can't face the thought of dropping them

Re: How many GCSE's did you take/ are you taking?
Maths + English + Science
Additional Science
French
History
Music
Then got put in for Statistics too.
Most of my friends did 8 or 9, and it wasn't until I joined TSR when I realised that people did more than that
We did some level 1 thing in RS, the ECDL in IT classes, first aid and Sports Leadership in PE but they aren't actual GCSEs and my CV hasn't particularly benfited from having it all on there. I think everyone should study a handful of traditional GCSEs so you don't end up being 15/16 and having loadssss of exams to worry about. How could you possibly enjoy learning at that age if you're constantly revising for something?Last edited by Billton; 31-05-2012 at 15:58. Reason: spellllllling -
Re: How many GCSE's did you take/ are you taking?I took ridiculous amounts of GCSE's because at our school we had to unless we were doing a BTEC or something else. But we did start out GCSE's in year 9. But i agree with you, i did too many GCSE's i think 10/11 should be a max.(Original post by Billton)

Re: How many GCSE's did you take/ are you taking?My sister is in Year 9 and she's already doing GCSEs. I think it's insane. I don't see what's wrong with picking 4 or 5 of your favourite subjects and studying those over 2 years. It didn't do me any harm- nobody at college ever asked what I did at GCSE and nobody at Uni has ever asked what I did at A Level. There is soooo much pressure on teenagers with regards to schooling.(Original post by RebeccaTenney)

Re: How many GCSE's did you take/ are you taking?I'm at college now and no one is interested in GCSE's, my sister currently doing hers. Because the amount they're making her take she is just giving up. GCSE students need a life as well as school(Original post by Billton)
