Will a brace push out my tooth?
I'm thinking about getting a brace, but I still have a baby tooth at the age of 20. Will a brace push this out?
From what I can remember from my friends having braces when we were younger, any remaining baby teeth were normally taken out beforehand, but I have no adult tooth underneath to replace it so I'd like to hold on to it for as long as possible! It's a molar towards the front so would be pretty obvious if it was missing. It doesn't seem worth paying thousands for braces if I'll just end up with a gappy smile instead of a wonky one

They will take out the teeth, and the braces will close the gap. (I had three baby teeth and four adult teeth removed and then braces. There's no gaps.)
I've already had one tooth on that side taken out and the baby tooth is pretty big. I can't believe that there'd be enough left to fill the gap. -

I remember eating soft stuff for a couple of days but it was fine after that. -
Re: Will a brace push out my tooth?I honestly think it depends on the person - I had a brace for 3 years during my teenage years to close the gap between my front teeth and it did not work. The gap is smaller, and my teeth are straighter, but I still have a gap there. Three years worth of braces seems like a long time for them not to do their job.(Original post by Kallistrate)

Don't let this deter you of course; I'm sure that as you're an adult, any dental work will be more permanent as you've stopped 'growing' as it were. Perhaps ask your dentist what the success rate is likely to be - if it's 50% that they may not work then you could perhaps ask for a retainer instead ? They're cheaper and though they work more slowly, they're also less noticeable X -
Re: Will a brace push out my tooth? They know exactly what they're doing, as soon as they start treating you if you do what they say and let them do there work they will look amazing at the end of it, it might take time but it will be worth it(Original post by Kallistrate)
