ACNE!! :(
Okay, so i'm 17 and I'd say I used to have good, clear skin. Then I went on to the pill, I then changed to a different pill cos the other was messing with my moods. Within the first week of changing I developed so many spots and by the second week it seemed to be acne all over my cheeks.. I stayed on the pill till the end of my strip to see if anything changed and it didn't, so I've since came off the pill, in hope that my skin will return to it's original state, I've been pill free for 3 weeks now and there's still no improvement, in the meantime does anyone have any remedies for acne? I use a face wash twice and day and also apply sudocream.
Seeing the acne is just getting me upset cos it's so hard to cover up and i can't help but feel paranoid that people are looking at it, it's also sometimes quite sore, help?

Re: ACNE!! :(
Which pill are you on? Yasmin is more expensive for your doctor to prescribe (but of course it won't cost you anything) but it's supposed to be very good for spots.
I used these for a while when I had acne and they were very good: http://www.jessup.co.uk/hri-herbal-c...n-medicine.asp They're completely herbal and I took about 2-3 a day. You can get them in Boots/Superdrug in the herbal tablets aisle

Re: ACNE!! :(
Go to the doctor and they can give you some proper spot lotion/cream to put on it..for me stuff you can buy in shops aren't helpful. The doctor can also give you antibiotics which might help you. Your spots should settle down..your hormones are probably just all over the place at the moment due to changing/coming of the pill.

Re: ACNE!! :(
Things that help my acne a lot:
Medication prescribed by my gp
Spot cream called "acnecide" - expensive but its the only cream that even touches my acne!
Drinking lots of water
And most importantly, a lot of sleep << can't stress this enough!
Good luck

Re: ACNE!! :(
If you see your GP, they may tell you to get a product with Benzoyl Peroxide at 2.5% to start of with, if you need a stronger version you can get 5% or the strongest is 10%. But always start off at 2.5% and work up to it if you need it.
Benzoyl Peroxide can be purchased from places like amazon, you will need to answer a few questions from the pharmacy sellers as this product is meant to be handled with extreme care. -
Re: ACNE!! :(
The ONLY thing that's stopped my acne was my diet. Cutting out all refined sugars was the biggie, then I moved onto cutting out grains. Yeah, it's extreme, but it works, and after 12 years of non-stop terrible acne ruining my life I'd had enough.
Now I feel so great and am so used to my new diet I wouldn't even change it. Basically it's inspired by the Paleo diet- meat/fish, vegetables, good fats (nuts etc.) and cutting out more modern processed stuff that our bodies haven't had much time to evolve to utilising properly yet. -
Re: ACNE!! :(How long did it take for your fae to become clear? Did your spots get worse then better? Thanks!(Original post by Lovefoxxx_93)
As the first poster says, try Yasmin. I was put on it specifically to get rid of acne.

Re: ACNE!! :(
Definitely sounds like your acne is caused by hormones, due to how the pill changes affected it. Which is GOOD news, because once your hormones settle down (might need to try different types of pill if you need to be on one) then your skin should clear up. In the mean time, try to stick to gentle treatments - sudocrem is good. If you start with hard topicals you can cause more irritation and the acne might worsen.
If for whatever reason your skin doesn't clear up, waste no time in getting to the doctors and asking for Roaccutane if your acne is severe. Miracle drug couldn't recommend it highly enough. -
Re: ACNE!! :(
It will probably settle down, particularly if you've never had a problem before taking the pill, just make sure you continue with a good washing routine, drink plenty of water, and try not to touch your face if you can help it. Although you might be tempted to cover it up with make up, I would recommend that you didn't if at all possible, as make up brushes can spread germs and the make up can clog your pores which might slow down the healing process a bit.

Re: ACNE!! :(I've been on it for nearly 5 months and things haven't worsened; it's slightly better I suppose. But then again I have quite severe acne(Original post by ConnieLouisa)

(going on Roaccutane in 2 weeks) but for mild/moderate acne it should be a lot more effective.

Re: ACNE!! :(
I suffered from acne throughout my school years. Acne is a medical condition and no amount of soap or cleanser will get rid of it, unfortunately. I spent years going from one antibiotic to another to another. Finally when my Dr started to see there would be some scarring if we didn't deal with the problem he referred me to a dermatologist and she put me on Roaccutane. It wasn't a pleasant experience at all' dry skin, blood tests, pregnancy tests, my hair fell. BUT it was SO worth it............I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. I was only on for about 6 months and they cleared. Been off it now for about 3 years and I don't have pristine skin like I did when I'd just come off but I definitely don't have acne anymore.
(if, after consideration roaccutane isn;t right for you, I'd recommend buying Manuka Honey from a supermarket, slapping it all over your face for about 10 minutes and you will notice a difference straight away.Last edited by Emilyhr; 13-06-2012 at 22:41. -
Re: ACNE!! :(
Thank you for the suggestions :-)
I went to my Doctor's and he prescribed me Panoxyl 2.5% gel and also put me on Erythromycin to take twice a day. I've using this for about a week now and I can see a difference, the only downfall is that the gel really dries out the skin and can leave red marks if you apply it too frequently, but i don't mind cos it's definitely helping this bloody acne dissappear!

Re: ACNE!! :(I feel like a I should mention this but the active ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide. I have been on this product and it does get rid of spots etc. It does this by just killing the bacteria on your face, thus the pore never gets inflamed (it is the bodies inflamation that causes those red nasty pussy spots) because the body is not fighting any bacteria that are mutliplying out of control (which is caused by having oily skin that bacteria love to grow in).(Original post by Dunny95)

However the product has the unfortunate side effect of damaging your skin. And if you use this product regularly it will age your skin quite severely, I can often tell amongst new graduates at where I work who had acne and used Benzoyl peroxide by how aged they look
. This product also makes your skin quite red, which hides spots very effectively (pale white skin makes spots light up like guy fawkes, whilst red angry skin hides spots quite effectively). To make matters worse, the moment you stop using this product your acne will very likely come back, because the bacteria will return and this will form spots (the same problem occurs with antibiotics).
I can tell you this from experience. For a short term fix for acne, benzoyl peroxide is excellent. For a long term solution it has serious downsides.
My experience is that the only way to CURE acne is to change your diet. Since I cut out dairy. Cut out grains. Cut out refined sugars. And started to eat much more veggies and fruits has cleared up in an amazing way, without any products. You want to reduce your intake of foods with a high glysemic load, such as bread etc. This is because these foods cause your insulin levels to spike, and for reasons I do not understand this causes you skin to produce more oil, thus bacteria multiply, and thus the body tries to fight them, and you have got spots.
I am pretty convinced that carrot is the king of foods for curing acne. This is because carrots have beta carrotine which the body can create vitamin A out of (something like that). Vitamin A regulates the amount of oils your skin produce, and because spots are fundamentally caused by excess sebum production, carrots do a very good job of stopping spots from ever forming. You will still have bacteria on your face, but they will not cause spots because the will not have the oil conditions required to multiply and then cause the pore to get inflamed.
Infact, the other main medical prescription for acne (other than benzoyl and antibiotics) is something called accutane. Accutane is just a vitamin A derivative. And accutane seems to have very impressive results. So basically carrots (or any root vegetable) are very similar to the most successful acne drug.
You may have noticed that I mention inflamation a lot as well. I think a solution to this problem is to get more omega 3 in your diet and reduce your intake of omega 6 (something with is very high in western diets). Omega 6 essentially makes you inflame more easily, whilst omega 3 is an anti-imflamatory. So omega 3 in theory should reduce the severity of any spots you do get. I am not entirely convinced this works and will not vouch for it 100% (like I will with carrots) but the science makes sense and my experience is that it probably works.
I know GPs and what not say acne is not caused by diet, that is what the idiots told me, but in my case and I suspect many others, acne can be cured by lifestyle changes. The GPs are just clueless. If you take their advice, your acne will just keep coming back time and time again, like mine did
(You hear this story all the time, people think they are cured from a drug, and the moment they stop it, the acne comes back even worse)
In my opinion there are three ways to deal with most cases of acne. One. Do nothing. Two. Drug yourself up indefinitely. Three. Change your lifestyle. -
Re: ACNE!! :(
I'm having the exact same problem except my acne developed when i came off the pill altogether, my doctor has put me back onto the 'yasmin' pill and i've still seen no improvement! Most people have suggested sudocrem but like you, i've noticed little improvement and similarly, it's getting me down and i feel like people stare at it! Hope we both find a solution! x
